I have a 2002 Honda CRV and I absolutely love it. Never have had to do anything but routine maintenance on it and it has ~90,000 miles on it. We get snow, ice, you name it and it (so far) has always gotten me where I needed to go. My husband hates it, but it isn't his car, so I really don't care what he thinks about it. On the few occasions that he does drive it, he gripes constantly. However, it has pulled his car out of a snow bank, and it has given his car a "jump" in the winter, and is the car we take when we have to go out of town in the winter.

I have had friends that drove Hyundais and I was not impressed with their reliability or overall quality. Those weren't Santa Fes, though, so maybe they have upgraded those.

I personally drive a 2006 Hyundai Tucson. We have not had one single problem with it in the 3 years we have driven it. The only thing that I would complain about is the fuel economy with the 6 cylinder engine, not too good at all. I have had several friends move from the Honda CRV to the Tucson and they have all had wonderful experiences with the Tucson over the CRV. Five years ago I would have said to buy the CRV, but the Santa Fe is now rated higher than the CRV for the 2009 model year and the Tucson is a rated a little behind the CRV. If your only concern is the gas mileage then buy a CRV it comes with a little 4 cylinder motor that is quite underpowered, but you will save lots on gas. If you want reliability for a fraction of the cost of the Honda, then buy the Tucson. Notice that I am not slamming the CRV, but you get more for your money in the Tucson. The main thing for me when I bought the Tucson was that it was much quieter on the road with wind etc. than the Honda. We found that the HOnda was quite noisy. Good luck.

Andrew expressed what I think too. Set your sights higher Honda Pilot, VW Toureg, BMW X-3 Nissan Pathfinder.

Better? Crv, by a longshot...long term dependability and resale on the Hyundai is Crap-ola!

I'd rather have a boot to the groin than drive either of them. My wife drives a CR-V which I hate.
