I did a tune up on the car and it didn't help. The car cuts out while driving and when stopped it cuts out real bad and it sounds awful. Could it be the cam going out?

First thing to do is pull codes. Under the dash there is a connector, the ALDL, it is black with several terminals right to left and two top to bottom. It is located Front seating area, driver side, under dash, mounted next to fuse block. There should be two terminals side by side while many of the others are empty. Take a paper clip and jumper the two terminals. (put the paper clip in both to connect them together.) Turn the key on. The check engine light will begin to flash, it will first flash once, pause then flash twice. That is code 12. That will flash three times to tell you you've accessed the diagnostic mode. After that other codes will be displayed through a series of flashes. Such as *** pause ** is code 32. Write down the codes till the check engine light flashes 12 again. Call Auto Zone and tell them what codes where in the car. From there, they may be able to help. If the car can make it to Auto zone, if you have one close by, some of them can do this for you.

With newer cars, it could be a multitude of things. MAF sensor, spark fault, O2 sensor...

The car's computer faults can be read using the check engine light flashes. You need to get a book or go to the library to find out how to do this.

Maybe someone will chime in with the process.

Everyone would just be guessing at this point.

Make sure you didn't accidentally knock any hoses off while you were in there, especially if you changed the air filter.

most likely it is the crankshaft sensor, if it gets a crack in it it can send erratic signals to the computer and make the car cut out. on the 94 cav its located on the back of the engine block just above the transmission, with the car on a lift you can see it best by looking straight up in between the engine and trans. if it cracks the car will run fine cold and once it warms up the crack will expand and the car will cut out, if it gets bad enough the engine won't spark and the car won't run at all.

They make a deal that plugs in by your fuse box and tells why the check engine light is on there is about a thousand things it could be. Check it out they let you barrow the thing free at auto stores. Probally some sensor bad.
