How come when i'm talking to someone i can't see they're icon.?

its just a black picture
i have it set in preferences that i should be able to see it.. :-\ someone help me fix it?

If its msn u use they might b usin sumtin else e.g. window's live messanger,my frend had the same trouble,ther's nuthin u can do except change ur msn to window live.
