I agree. The country is going to morph into totalitarianism, and the way Bush has handled things, I'm afraid it's irreversible.

Whatever happens these will still be the good ole days for many young people in the future.
In the American view, there is nothing vile or degraded about serving your customers either as a CEO or as a waiter. The ordinary life of production and supporting a family is more highly valued in the United States than in any other country. America is the only country in the world where we call the waiter "sir," as if he were a knight.
People live longer, fuller lives in America.
In America the destiny of the young is not given to them, but created by them.
America has gone further than any other society in establishing equality of rights.
America has found a solution to the problem of religious and ethnic conflict that continues to divide and terrorize much of the world. Visitors to places like New York are amazed to see the way in which Serbs and Croatians, Sikhs and Hindus, Irish Catholics and Irish Protestants, Jews and Palestinians, all seem to work and live together in harmony. How is this possible when these same groups are spearing each other and burning each other's homes in so many places in the world?
America is the only country in the world that extends full membership to outsiders. An American could spend 40 years in India but would not become Indian. In America, by contrast, hundreds of millions have come from far-flung shores and over time they, or at least their children, have in a profound and full sense "become American."
Twice in the 20th century, the United States saved the world -- first from the Nazi threat, then from Soviet totalitarianism. What would have been the world's fate if America had not existed? After destroying Germany and Japan in World War II, the United States proceeded to rebuild both countries, and today they are American allies. Now we are doing the same thing in Afghanistan and Iraq. Yet America never stays to rule that country.
America is far from perfect, and there is lots of room for improvement. In spite of its flaws, however, American life as it is lived today is the best life that our world has to offer. Ultimately America is worthy of our love and sacrifice because, more than any other society, it makes possible the good life, and the life that is good

If you take a look at how things can rapidly change for the better, like how New York City has changed during the past 30 years, then I believe the Best is yet to be. New York has gone from a crime-ridden, depopulating city with many social woes & on the brink of financial disaster in the 70's--to becoming the safest city in the US for several years in a row. In addition it is diverse, culturally rich, vibrant, welcoming to newcomers from all around the world and financially in great shape (not to mention a fun place to live & visit!) So, yes, I believe that the rest of America can change for the better.

This country has been thrashing over the same issues for a century. Sometimes the move to provide for the good of the public goes too far ( prohibition is about the best example ) and sometimes the push for a small do-nothing government gets the upper hand ( Katrina relief ).
Anyone who doesn't have their head in the sand can see that we are far away from a functioning federal government. If the government becomes any less capable of providing actions toward the common good, (FDA, FEMA, USDA, EPA, FCC and especially the FTC) we will be paying taxes solely to provide infrastructure and aid to Corporations.

LOL.......You think Clinton was the good ole days. Got news for ya, that is when the problems started. I know you must be a democrat by your total naivety and ignorance of history. There have been corrupt politicians since man has been on this earth and throughout the history of America. We are not doomed as long as we can rid ourselves of the disease that goes by the name of liberals. I am amazed daily and the level of ignorance that is out there. And people wonder how Hitler took power. The German people had the intelligence of democrats.

1 - Hardly.
2 - It is changing for the better as we speak; what you're seeing today is what changing for the better looks like.
I've got news for you - there is no such thing as "the good old days"; that is a form of nostalgia indulged in by folks who cannot or will not come to grips with today's reality.
This has been true from time immemorial and is just the way the world is.

Every culture goes through ups and downs in a sort of cyclic pattern. Generally speaking, however, in the long run every culture declines. That's what cultures do. My belief is that it's mostly tied to resources, not people. Once the natural resources of a place are close to exhaustion, culture begins to spiral downwards.

If the pinko Democrats take over, we are done for.
They have already promised to raise taxes on working people.
Democrats are always elected by the rich, welfare people, and with voter fraud.
But now they are registering illegals by the hundreds of thousands to vote Democrat.
With the Democrats surrendering to all our enemies, it looks all downhill.
