I Have Flash MX 2004 installed on two different PCS. Both have the same problem. Trace actions put into the code do not display at all in the output panel. Omit Trace actions is unchecked, and the filter level in the output panel is set to Verbose. It is not specific to any one fla file as I have tried also a test flash file with a simple trace action in the first frame. Any ideas?

In the output panel's upper-right menu drop-down, you will notice a "Filter Level" option. In it is "None" & "Verbose". You have to set it to VERBOSE! You would intuitively think that "None" sounds like "no filtering", but this is not the case. It's just the opposite.
Even with all else set right, Flash sometimes still decides not to output any traces. However, if you force a script-error to occur & then compile it....an error WILL BE sent to the output panel. After this, your traces will work again.

I am not using Vista—not even seen yet, but I think I have the way to work it out. Locate your Flash MX 2004 icon, either in Desktop or in Start>Programs. Right-click on it and select properties to bring up Flash MX 2004 Properties dialog box. Do you see Compatibility tab? If yes, click the tab, and look for something like "Run this program in compatibility mode", then choose XP. I hope it works.
