I don't have a criminal Record or anything like that. 1 Month ago I went to the gun store and bought a 300 Rifle. I went through the federal check that now we have to do for rifles also, and Passed. Now I have gone to buy a 9mm pistol, and I was denied. Why would I after federal Check be authorized to buy a rifle but not a Pistol? I am also 34 years old, so I am over the age of legal limit for ownership of a Pistol.

Okay to answer a few of the questions. to my questions. 34 is over the legal limit which means in the state of Maine you HAVE to be over the age of 21 to purchase the handgun. It doesnt matter if a pistol is more dangerous than a rifle. that is not how the law works. Guns Dont kill people, Husbands that come home early do. As far as CCW (concealed Weapon) I was not applying for a concealed weapons permit. so the easier to conceal bit does not apply and as far as the gunshop goes? He was not able to tell me anything, he only had a form for me to fill out and challenge their decision. Which I did.

Your question has inspired me to ask a question about gun control.
You may live in an area where the number of guns bought during a certain length of time may be restricted. You may also want to make sure that all of the personal information you gave in order for the check to take place was taken accurately. If your information is off even by a little, you could be mixed up with someone who would not be allowed to purchase a gun.

Gun laws are different in each State. The reason that it's harder to get a pistol permit is because pistols and revolvers are easily concealed, rifles and shot guns are not.
I'm sure that 34 is not over the age limit. There are many far older who own pistols.

The federal law shouldn't prevent you from buying a pistol (unless,of course you have been indicted for some crime in the past month, but you'd know that!). What city and state are you in? There must be some local law that says you can't have a pistol. Some places have 1-gun-a-month or 1/90 days limit on purchases.

I don't know all the federal and state laws on gun ownership... i know from state to state things are different... but a pistol can be hidden... a rifle is rarely used in crimes and that's the only reason I can think of... I live in Ky and I have a permit to caring a concealed weapon... I got my permit when my 16yo son was carjacked and murdered...

The only answer to this question that makes sense requires an honest reading of the Second Amendment.
"shall not be infringed" is a hell of a lot more absolute than your right to free speech.
The bottom line is that the federal government has no business doing these checks for rifles or pistols, either one.
Now, your state could do whatever it wanted to. The Second Amendment prohibition does not apply to any individual state.

my suggestion would be to ask whoever you filed with.
and shiraz, stuff the "democrats are evil" mumbo-jumbo. gun control laws are there for a reason. if we have to go through a little extra hassle to get our guns so that cons can't do the same so easily, is that not a sacrifice that is worth making?
