One day my laptop made a "POP" noise and since I have had no sound. I have called around and have been told it would be cheaper buying a new laptop rather than fixing. Is this true?
I have a Gateway, about 3 years old.

First, go to your device manager by right click my computer and selecting properties. See if there are issues there. Then try reinstalling the sound card drivers. That may also solve your issue.

If you are still under warranty then call for technical help... The sound card is attached to the mother board so they have to replace the whole thing... It's like getting a whole new computer! If you are out of warranty then try some of the other suggestions and also get Norton System Works and run that... It fixes a multitude of problems... Another thing... does headphones work? If not it just may be the sound card is bad... and a new computer may be your best option... But at least check into the cost of replacing the sound card/motherboard... Bring it to Comp USA or someplace like that... You will have to pay for the diagnostic service but it may be worth it... Good Luck!
