I wonder if I can do any sort of massage of palm or ear (except the so-called "face retraining")? I know very lttle about accupressure but a friend of mine told me that it may help the medications and my face to get back to normal. If you have any experience in accupressure, or know some dedicated websites, please, let me know!

This condition is the result of an inflammatory process of the nerve... something a chiropractor works with routinely. There will usually be other symptoms besides the eyelid or mouth. But are not as significant, as when visual signs show up. There will be noticeable tenderness at the base of the skull, of the same side as the problem.

The medication may reduce the inflammatory process but, the initiating problem remains and needs to be treated.

My mother has had Bell's Palsy twice and my uncle once and acupressure didn't help either of them. They were told it wouldn't work because the nerves aren't functioning properly and since all nerves are connected to one main "circuit board" and the 'circuit board" itself is what is under attack that the signals get crossed and don't respond to outward stimuli.

They did find that small, tightening and scrunching exercises, along with biting exercises (like biting different sizes of rubber balls), and sucking exercises (like sucking on thick milk shakes, pop sickles and sour candy) helped them - after they got over the pain - to strengthen their facial muscles.

I hope you recover soon, as I have seen how much pain Bell's Palsy causes, and I feel for you. I think I'd rather give birth to quintuplets or have a dozen kidney stones than face what you're going through! Good luck and God Bless.

I just took an antibiotic and it went away in a few days. Seems like massage or acupressure might help the process along. Certainly couldn't hurt
