I don't believe this is a hardware problem as it happened ages ago with my original sound hardware.

And before another one of you says it, it is indeed not muted and the volume is all the way up.

Note that there are three jacks in your sound card.
1. Line In
2. Line Out
3. Mic

Line in can be used to input to auxillary inputs like sound from external units like musicla keyboard into your sound card for recording purpose.

Line out can be used to take out the sound processed by your sound card.

Mic is used to input the sound signal retrived by micro[hone / head set.

So there is no meaning in expecting some sound from the input pin.
However in some 6 channel sound cards this can be configured as output 1 or 2 though available driver softwares.

line-IN is obviously for INPUT which is why it does not produce any OUTPUT.

This could be used to connect a sound input from another device's line-out, like a video, stereo system, etc.

GO to "volume controll" and check box for "line in".

ur software is not installed properly install it or check out ur port is corrupted
