I like the south better than the north, but I am on a budget; small military pension. I would like to move to Texas or somewhere else in the south that's warm and life generally more pleasant. I am a middle-aged retired military woman who was an administrator for many years. I have a Business Administration degree as well as graduate work in education. I am on a pretty small pension so I am looking for a city that's cheap, warm, and has fast employment opportunities. What do you think?

Thanks!

My advice: start looking in Houston. The whole Gulf Coast is booming, but that is both good and bad. Housing can be a little more costly and you don't want to put yourself in a place that can flood, etc. Houston is growing like crazy, so the range of housing is broad. And there are more work chances for you. Get started there and take the time to really explore other options. Make the city your base because it is an easy landing zone. Then recon the different places you could go to from there. One other thought: San Marcos. Check it out.

There are several cities in the East Texas that you may consider. I'm sure you can look them up on Yahoo.

Of course there is Dallas with lots of opportunities but millions of people, high traffic and the cost of living is generally higher.

Longview and Tyler are very nice cities both around 80 to 85 thousand people. Good shopping and the life is slower than that of Dallas. Job market is still good as well.

A pre-welcome to Texas!

Ugh, neo-Confederates. interior the Reconstruction era, lots of the former slaves became sharecroppers for their previous masters. As sharecroppers, they have been locked right into a gadget akin to indentured servitude. They weren't given 40 acres and a mule - that become a suggestion that become never quite positioned into result. the human beings who have been oppressing them whilst they have been freed have been in simple terms approximately consistently SOUTHERNERS. Black human beings could have become efficient if the South hadn't imposed Jim Crow rules to regulate those newly freed human beings. The North created 'amazing cities' because of the colourful unfastened marketplace gadget in place there. If in basic terms the South had accompanied its occasion. And by utilising the way, you're utilising the comparable argument that slave vendors did in an attempt to justify the existence of slavery. They stated that their slaves, if freed, could be victims of northern 'salary slavery.' PUKE.

Houston is good, cheap housing, weather is warm, sometimes too hot, but you can get good opportunities here.
