Have a look here. Its got a pretty basic wiring pic for you to look at.

It shouldnt be that hard to replace a light fitting, i have done all of mine.

I think that one of the wires will be the switch wire and so go to a different connection.

Keep the black wire with the red band separate. This is the live feed from the switch. Connect all the red ones together, but don't connect your lamp to these. There should be a spare connector in the light or the ceiling rose for this - if not use some terminal strip. Connect all the black ones except for the one with the red band (that's why your power trips when you switch on) and connect the blue wire from your lamp to it. The black wire with the red band connects to the brown wire from your lamp - and nothing else. If the lamp has a green/yellow wire, connect that to the earth wire in the ceiling. This is usually bare but with green/yellow or green sleeving. If you haven't got an earth wire in the ceiling, your house needs rewiring.

before you take the light fitting down look to see where the wires go the blacks stay to together but the reds could be on a loop in the middle there will be the loop wires and t each side will be the life and neutral wires put some tap round the loop wires so you know which they are then its straight forward the with the rest don't put all the reds together or you will pop the fuse

Check your homeowner insurance policy. Usually, the insurance companies refuse to pay claims for fire damage which they can say was caused by electrical work done by a person who is not a licensed electrician or done without proper city/county permits.. If you want to proceed on your own after that, get a book on basic electrical wiring and learn what those colors on the wires mean, and why there are more than two or three wires--two-way switches, parallel wiring, proper grounding, etc. Oh, yes, do not use a wet finger to check for 'live' socket.

Where did you get the light from? It should come with instructions. If you bought it from a thrift store or something, you can probably go to a lighting store and ask them. The red band around the black wire confuses me.
