As a Mazda 6s owner, I felt obligated to answer.
Yeah, the Fusion came out after the 6, but that's because Ford waits for all its subcompanies' platforms to come out so it can use it for its own cars.....i.e. Volvo platform on the Five Hundred. Anyway, I've had over 50k worry-free miles on my 6s and I wouldn't ever trade it for a Fusion or any Ford, period. Ford's designs just don't compare to Mazda's, my many compliments over the past couple years just add credit that the car is definitely a looker! Mine is a fully loaded 6s, which when it came out, would still outweigh a fully loaded Fusion. Mazda makes cars for drives, true drivers. Ford just makes them by stealing its subcompanies' ideas, and even so, Ford can't seem to thrive.
Get the 6, I promise you, you won't regret it.

Okay here is some truths. Ford owns a good chunk of mazda so be under no illusion that the mazda has "better parts" the Mazda 6 3.0 V6 IS a ford V6 while the 2.3I4 is a mazda engine. The 3.0 is a good v6 which will be disscontinued in the near future, it was used in the tarus, and the mazda b3000 and the ford ranger. The New mazda V6 will use the 3.5 V6 which is in the ford Fusion. THe Mazada 6 is built in the USA and the ford fusion is built in Mexico. In short - they are very simular cars using the same platform. Both use the same 2.3l base engine... Go what feels good to sit in and drive.

I am having the same problem! I narrowed down my choices to the 6 and the fusion. I still can't decide. I drive a mazda now and love it so will probably go with the 6, but it's tempting to try something new and I know I'd probably save money buying a fusion. Hope you end up happy with your choice!

Toss in an extra $10,000 and get the Japan modified Mazda Speed 6. Other than that drive some more cars. There are better cars in the 20 to 27 thousand segment. I bought a LS-2 400 Hp 6 speed 2006 GTO around $31,000. Don't whimp out lets use up gasoline before China gets all of it while we still can!

I very own a 2007 V6 SEL Ford Fusion for a month now. that's an staggering automobile. I definitely have yet to discover even the tiniest flaw immediately, visual attraction or in good condition and end. i'm taking area in it immensely. that's an extremely balanced automobile. not too plush, not too sporty. It has an extremely superb experience to it and is extremely comfortable to force. It is likewise an extremely appealing automobile. when you consider which you extremely asked approximately the two diverse engines, you may desire to comprehend that the V6 is extremely inconsistent whilst it includes gasoline mileage. i'm in basic terms getting approximately 18 mpg for a mix of fifty% city and 50% freeway. i comprehend others who're getting down in the 13 to fifteen mpg for their customarily city driving. nonetheless others declare to be getting 20 mpg or extra effective for customarily city. that's heavily diverse than the EPA stickers. So if gasoline mileage is significant, it extremely is extremely helpful to bypass with the I4. that's extra low priced too. Given the horsepower and torque out of the 4 cylinder engine, that's going to be extremely peppy sufficient. however the V6 supplies you very superb means for this automobile. the only unfavorable element that every physique has an identical opinion on, is that that's turning circle is extremely extensive for a automobile that's length. I used to force a greater Buick Century, and can verify U-turns devoid of having to back up. in the Fusion I ought to furnish up and back up somewhat. shopper comments, widely used for their dislike of kin autos, gave the Fusion their precise pronounced purchase score, besides as their precise rankings in risk-free practices and predicted reliability.

Mazdas are one of the safest cars on the road, and Consumer Reports love them. Ford Fusion hasn't proven itself yet. I would wait a few years, let them get the kinks out.

Mazda's are quite a bit more expensive, but you definitely get more bang for your buck. The resale value of American cars, including Ford's, are quite low. If you were to ever sell a Mazda, you wouldn't lose as much money selling it as you would on a Ford (or Chevy, GM, etc.)
Japanese cars have also come quite a long way. Their parts aren't as cheap quality as American-made cars and it's easy to find parts for them in wreckers when they need to be fixed. Unlike American cars where you have to go to the dealership for many things to be fixed because of the specific way the car is made.

Ford Fusion has a lower depreciation value, so it is a better choice for the future, it is also cheeper for repairs and parts.
