I was going to get the SE W850i but I was put off because everyone said the camera was rubbish because it had no autofocus. I'm now gonna get a Samsung D900 but is autofocus really that important??

I cannot believe that a camera in a mobile telephone has no autofocus, since there are no focusing rings. If the SE W850i really has fix focus, it must have a large depth of field.
I may be a bit old fashioned, but I still prefer to have a mobile telephone and a separate camera. There are some tiny ones (all autofocus!) with lots of megapixels. If it is important for you to send pictures by phone, make sure your mobile and your camera use the same type of memory card. This way you can send much better pictures than a mobile telephone ever could make. You've just got to be careful not to send pictures with too much data.
Fixfocus has one advantage over autofocus: If you make a picture of two persons standing a bit apart, autofocus may choose the "correct" focus between the two, i.e. in the background.

The W850i is good but auto is much better than fixed focus. Plus the joysticks on the SE phones tend to last not much more than a year. mine has started playing up already.

autofocus is really useful, it means that most of your pix will be less blurry, but ive heard that the w850i does have autofocus. different websites say different things about fones. you have to check more than one site to fin out what Spec the fone has. i wouldn't worry though, their both great fones. if in doubt, choose the fone that looks cooler. (probably the W850i)

dont all phones have autofocus? how else can you focus on those things, there is no focus ring. The only cameras that dont have auto focus are SLR's and some high-speed consumer models. I dont think any camera phone has a manual focus.

in case you opt for a telephone with a digital camera, get one with the utmost MP you are able to discover the money for. diverse new telephones have cameras with 5MP or larger, so look at those. additionally, which kind of flash they use could make a difference. so some distance as lenses are in contact, it makes a difference, yet on a telephone, nicely...the lens is extremely small and crappy whilst in comparison with a committed digital camera. My new telephone has a 5MP digital camera. Admittedly, I very hardly use the digital camera...yet my husband has the comparable telephone and makes use of the digital camera quite plenty. For a digital camera telephone, i could could desire to assert the photographs are quite quite stable, extraordinarily in stable outdoors lighting fixtures. So, i opt for to advise you get one with a minimum of 5MP minimum. some stable producers to envision are Samsung, Nokia and Sony. yet, in case you quite need super image high quality and helpful properties...you opt for a appropriate digital camera.
