im sure this isnt a serious question, but it got me thinking so im gonna answer it anyway. the height would go down. when water is soaked up by a sponge it doesnt cause the water to take up any less area. however the sponges themselves do take up a small area, so overall you are taking away volume from the ocean. so therefore te level goes down. sponges(i assume you mean bathtype not porifera,(sorry could resist being smartass)) are quite a prolific group, however the ocean is huge so bugger all difference i reckon.

Very difficult question. The total amount of sponges around the world is not a very large amount. If taken out I cannot imagine it causing the sea level to rise.
However , climate change which is causing glacial ice melting and the pouring of hundreds of millions of tons of water into the sea may not only destroy sponges but also increase the height of the sea significantly enough to wipe out a large number of little islands spread out in the oceans and seas. ie in Micronesia, Maldives, Mauritus etc

the HEIGHT of the sea would increase by seven feet.
with all the sponges laying around the land would be softer in coastal regions and beaches would be more comfortable.
it still will not encourage the french to wash more frequently.

not much differance really, as the sponge you soak up a percentage, the the next sponge placed on top would carry a percentage, but then lessen the percentage in the sponge below due to weight....etc etc

lower, because the sponges are absorbing in water, but because they are under water they replace the water with themselves AND the water they have absorbed
