Both are excellent places to visit. However, London hotels can be very expensive. On the other hand they do speak English in London!
Be warned that Parisians can be quite scathing of visitors, even those who speak quite good French (they pretend they don't understand you for some reason!). Paris has many beautiful places to see - but so has London. Difficult choice.
Maybe you should decide which one to visit by considering that you will be spending money in the one you choose, so it might as well be in the capital of the country that has loyally supported America in its recent troubles (I am assuming you are in the USA), thus helping to boost its economy a fraction.
In any case, if you have a few dollars to spare, you can travel directly to Paris from London, on the Euroexpress train, and have a taste of that city, too - even for a day. But whichever place you choose, have a pleasant time!

Well, I have seen both (lived in London as well) and it would be a tough decision if I were in your shoes - I loved each one for it's uniqueness (unlike US, where every city looks so much like the other!)
What you can do is choose London and do the London to Paris trip on your own expenses to get the best of both. (London IS expensive)
London to Paris is well connected by the Eurostar which is fast and reliable. If you have an American passport, you will not need a visa. If you get a decent hotel close to the Latin quarters in Paris (we had stayed somewhere there), you will be close to most places.

Paris. What's so great about London? There's traffic, too many people, nothing really cool to look at like there would be in Paris.

Both have lots of places to be seen.London has Madame Tussaud's , Buckingham palace, castles, crown jewels, tower of london etc. But if you like looking at sculptures and paintings-Paris is the place to be. London has its share of Art but in museums, not in the city itself. Paris has Eiffel tower, Louvre museum among other things- Venus de milo, Mona Lisa, Raphael's masterpieces etc. hope that helps you decide.Paris is also artistic but is not as clean as Leon so it has an artistic and romantic appeal.London is expensive compared to Paris btw, including travel, accomodation and entry fee.Like the entry fee for Louvre is 7 euro compared to £15 for Tower of London or £25 for Madame Tussaud's

Just read something about some afganisthan ancient treasures they will be exhibiting at the Paris Museum. Sounds like good incentive. But on the other hand, France was rated the least friendly country (To sightseers)
