You will need a wrench first. An adjustable one is fine. Or a pair of channel lock type pliers. There will be a valve on the line where the pipe from the meter is. Turn this valve 1/4 turn. There is usually a pointer on the valve. This should bisect the pipe. Pointing away from the pipe, not along it's axis. Now your gas is off.

When this is done, you can loosen the hose from the dryer. Turn it to the left, counter clock wise. Either at the dryer or the pipe. All of this is located at the back of the dryer by the way. Or should be. If you hear a continuous whoosh from gas escaping, you have done something wrong. Re-tighten the hose, and find someone that knows what they are doing. Gas is dangerous and could cause an explosion, or cause unconsciousness and then death.

not entirely sure what you mean.. Do you mean unhooking it from the OUTSIDE gas line or the INSIDE gas line? Also.. do you plan to plug forever the gas line or just temporarily while you switch to electric?.... If it is from the inside gas line located behind your gas dryer, you have to turn off the gas line from the outside of the house first and leave it OFF... then disconnect the gas line behind the gas dryer and to insure that bugs, etc do not enter the gas line, you can get a cap or plug to put on the gasline behind the gas dryer

First observation is that if you must ask the question you should be very careful in assessing your ability to disconnect. Gas fuels are flammable and toxic, and there are unforgiving consequences in the event of misuse. Seriously consider using the services of a licensed plumber.

However, if you have handy genes and appropriate tools, look for the shut-off valve near your appliance. Building codes require that a valve be installed in the gas line at the location of each appliance so that the supply to a given appliance can be shut off during installation and maintenance without the necessity to shut off the supply to the entire building at the meter.

The valve will be attached at the end of a (usually black-denoting a gas line) galvanized pipe. From the valve a short supply line delivers gas to the appliance. The valve handle should be rotated to the right in order to shut off the gas. The valves are tight fitting so a pliers may be necessary to rotate the valve handle. This will extinguish the pilot light, so remember to follow the instructions for re-lighting after you reconnect.

Before you proceed to turn off the gas, please supplement your question by explaining your purpose in turning off the gas.
