Sweetie you probably don't need one if you are a virgin. Cervical cancer is very strongly linked to human papilloma virus (wart virus) which is exclusively a sexually transmitted infection. The HPV causes dysplasia or changes in the cells of the cervix which can lead to cancerous change. The chances of that occurring at your age without having had intercourse are very very remote indeed. If people didn't have sex we wouldn't bother with smears as a screening test! The other risk factor for cancer of the cervix is smoking.
It won't be very comfortable to have a smear done if you are a virgin, so I wouldn't recommend it. If you go ahead anyway, the most important thing is to relax as much as possible. Make sure you tell the nurse so she is extra gentle with you. Hope that helps!

Hi, I have had one and know from experience that if you are nervous it may hurt a little bit, but you should relax as much as possible. This helps more than you may think, they do it so quickly you hardly have time to worry, try chatting to the nurse who will be doing it so you'll feel a lot more comfortable. Mine have never hurt, so good luck and my thoughts are with you, Im sure the results will put your mind at rest. By the way congratulations on keeping your virginity, I hope when You loose it it will have been worth the wait. Hayley-May

The instrument used to do a smear test is called a Speculum. Your Dr will warm it up so it is not cold and then insert it in between your labia. It is a little uncomfortable, but Hurt? Not really. He or she will then use a long Q-tip to take a sample of the mucous off your cervix, and then you're done. It will not affect your virginity status, and will be over before you know it. Relax - it's no worse than a tongue depresser in your throat if you are relaxed. Tell the Dr you are nervous and they will be extra gentle.

If you are a virgin it is unlikely that you will 'need' to have a smear test, however if your doctor has suggested that you should have one it may be a good idea to ask him/her why! I have always been led to believe that if you have never been sexually active a smear test is not necessary, so I would check this out with your doctor before you start to worry about the test itself.

Um....well usually they use a speculum to open you up and look at your cervix, but I don't know what they do if you're a virgin. Ask the nurse or phone before you go. The best thing for a smooth smear test is relaxation...

It will be uncomfortable, but you have to relax so it's not really uncomfortable. Talk to your gyno before he/she does it and ask him/her what they will be doing, it might ease you up a little.
They wanted to give me one too (I was 17) and I told her no because I was a virgin still (at the time) and my gyno said that since I was a virgin that I could hold off on getting one done. Once I turned 18 and lost my virginity I decided to have it done. But at your age (or any ones age for that matter, virgin or not), you shouldn't hold off on getting it done because it could save your life.
Anyway you look at it (virgin or not), it's going to be uncomfortable. To tell you the truth, the most uncomfortable part is when they open the speculum up to look at your cervix and it does hurt a little but it's not unbearable pain.

It will feel like a lot of pressure. It does hurt a little, I wont lie about that but, its not that bad. Just breath deeply and relax your legs all the way out. If you try to squeeze your legs together it will hurt more because you are tensing up the muscle in the Vagina. Just relax and don't over think it before hand you will be fine.

Tell the practitioner doing the smear that you are a virgin and they can take extra care when doing it. It will be uncomfortable but should not hurt.
