Yes. Probably not right away but after the rural population gets better educated so they understand what they're voting for. I think with mass media, the internet, and foreign travel the population will want to move that way in the future.

Yes - It has to be initiated by the people. A succesful and lasting democracy will only occur from the ground up. People need to organize and create a large democracy movement. Yes, there is the problem of the government using violence against opposition movements and arresting dissenters, but with the international community so connected to China economically now, it may be more difficult for the Chinese government to use severe oppression. Use alternative media sources to spread your message and broadcast abuses by the government when they occur.

Up until recently China was a closed country. Therefor western ideas of democracy were not available to the population. If people know no different they are unlikely to seek change.

no.

there isn't any immediate evidence to support that a democracy is any better then their current state. many democracies such as the one in the UK are moving towards a dictatorship, but we get the opportunity to vote who we need to dictate to us for the next 4 years. the involvement of people in the real power is very far removed, and this is all under the guise of "national security".

for China the current situation is working very well for them, and they have made just enough movement in thier structure to appease the rest of the world into being freindly with them

Yes. And so should the U.S. We had democracy for over 200 years and loved it. Now we are moving into a brutal dictatorship that is more dangerous to the world than the rest of the world combined. Ultimately, anywhere in the world, people are cool and politicians are dangerous.

No. I don't think they should. There are a couple of things they should improve upon, government wise. The people don't really know enough about their government to be controlling it. Look at America. You give the people control, and things go to hell.
