Hamsters will try to bite when you first get them. But if you handle them a lot, and do it gently without ever hurting them, they will trust you enough to stop biting.

My daughter's hamsters were always played with outside of their cages, and they had the run of the house when they played. Even the cat and dog would play with them. They never bit past the first couple of months, when they learned they were safe.

As for teaching them to use one part of their cage alone for pottying...I found that giving them a dead-end extension would encourage them to use that as their potty. You MUST clean it out every couple of days though, because it can get rancid very fast.

I've never heard of being able to potty train them, but if they are like a lot of other rodents, they will naturally choose only one area of their home to go to the bathroom in.
As far as biting goes, it depends on the hamster's personality, its mood, and how used it is to being picked up. I've held some hamsters that have been wonderful, and I've gotten some pretty nasty bites from some.
Also consider allergies. If I'm around hamsters too long, I start sneezing nonstop.

hamsters definetely bite. especially pregnant females. it really depends on whether the hamster is use to contact with people. if a hamster is handled alot when small, it usually won't bite. but if not had much contact, it will bite everytime you try to pick it up. handling and getting it use to being handled, it will quite biting. just wear a glove when handling it until the biting stops.

And i have never heard of potty training of a hamster. I know they use a specific corner of a cage, and will almost always use this spot, but not a actually potty train them .

Yes, they can bite but only if they are scared or anxious about something. The best thing to do is introduce your hand to the cage and wait for htem to come to you rather than by just grabbing them and picking them up.

Hamsters will generally toilet where they want to, but usually stick to one corner of thier cage. You can't always make them use the little hamster potties that you can buy but they are clean animals in general.

Also, if you're considering getting a hamster, my advice is to give them a dust bath to roll in because they keep clean that way and they look tres cute when they are rolling in it :)

Yes, they do. I had one hamster myself and that was enough for me. I've known plenty of other hamsters and all but one were nippy. They're just not that friendly. As you can guess, I highly recommend rats, as they are friendly and like to be held/petted, and are very smart.
Never bothered to potty train any rodent. I don't really think it's worth the trouble but that's just me. Most of them will pick one corner to pee in, so just clean that spot every day and change the whole cage every 3-4 days or whenever it needs it.
Have fun!

Hamsters absolutely bite, especially when they feel threatend. I was bitten by a hamster that I had. Please know that they have very sharp teeth.

As for the potty training situation, I never really tried to potty train her (I don't think), I kept my hamster in a large cage and just cleaned our the mess every couple days.

They are rodents. They bite occasionally. Not often, unless yours is of particularly bad temperment, or you mishandle it (like squeezing it too tightly).

Toilet training? I've never heard of this. Their droppings are fairly inoffensive. You have to change their shavings every few days any way.
