I don't think you can determine which one is better.... Here is my thinking.
Yes answers seem better because they tend to have a positive connotation such as "Will you marry me? YES!" However, a yes answer can be devastating as well such as " Are you in love with someone else?, Is my husband dead?, Is is cancer?, Are you firing me?" yes is not the answer you want to here.
No answers have the same flip side. No can be just a positive as negative. Just apply the same questions above with a no response!

YES!!!
Saying yes to things opens up a million different opportunities. If you say no all the time you may as well curl up in a dark room for the rest of your life, you'll never do anything!!

I would like "Yes," but the "media" just loves "No" because it gets more ratings.
Also, the governments and schools prefer "No" because it is the center point of order.
But, I prefer "Yes" as it is the step toward a compromise and final solution.

I'm on my own at the moment so I cannot ask the question to get an answer, but I would if I could, so yes would be the answer, but at the moment, considering my situation, no.

I prefer no. It frees you from obligation regardless of the context, unless someone throws a double negative at you!
Yes is too subjugating. And it takes longer to say, fractionally.

"Yes" is more natural to form as speech than is "no". Back when we were just starting to communicate with speech as a species, I believe we made "yeh" sounds first. I've watched about a billion babies as they learn to speak. Naturally, first speech that we make is "muh" and "ma" sounds. There's this period with babies when they ecstatically discover "yeh" sounds. They open those mouths, throw their heads back, waggle those free and loose tongues and run wildly through the house and yard experimenting and enjoying that sound. I love babies at that age, so, Id have to agree with you about preferring the word "yes".
