This question has probably already been asked before. It just irks me how it is under "Society & Culture" and then under "Cultures & Groups".

You have a right to be more than irked. It is one thing that they will not list us under "Family and Relationships". However it is absolutely disgusting that under "Society and Cultures", they list Bullfighting, Etiquette, Mythology, Royalty etc, then they show us under 'Cultures and Groups'
Come on YAHOO! There is probably no one who knows more about etiquette than gays. The GLBT community is a real part of society, not a myth. On a lighter side, we probably have more queens than what you consider 'Royalty'.
Seriously though Yahoo, we are not a culture nor a group. Cultures and Groups are both a congregation of persons who chose to join together with a common bond. We did not choose to become Gay Lesbian or Bisexual. But we are a part of society, whether we are recognized as families or not. At the very least, couldn't you represent us as equal with Bullfighters!!!!!!

We do not fit the biblical definition of a family, and most straights refuse to concede that we are capable of having relationships. We live in a society whose laws and customs were ultimately derived from Catholic Church canon, and people treat as natural law the mores and customs they grew up with, even if they have no idea how the customs got started. The reason same-sex marriage is illegal in the U.S. is because it was banned by the Pope in the 10th century, and no one has ever questioned it. As sad as it seems, I sometimes think we should be glad this forum exists at all, to change 10 centuries of social conditioning is not going to happen in a few years, or even a few decades, we just to carry on carrying on.

Gay men and lesbians don't create 'families' in the conventional sense (ie have children) so we are made to be feel different by being categorized as such.

Yes, I know what you mean. Implying that homosexuality is either a 'culture' or a 'group' under the "Cultures and Groups" section is tantamount to saying that all gay men are sexually promiscuous and that HIV is part of gay 'culture'. Ridiculous.

I live an "Ashley" lifestyle. Not a 'gay' lifestyle.

Yes it has been asked before. I think it has to do with the fact that lesbians, gays, bisexuals, and transgendered are not yet really accepted as "suitable" families or relationships. It is still being debated in the court of society. Maybe someday it will get changed.

How are those words related to family? Of course it may be a relationship, but it is about what are you referencing by saying "Gay." You should be able to discuss the relationships, but the details in a relationship belong in culture sections.

you understand, thats a reliable question, I initially went looking fot this class under kin and Relationships and could no longer discover it for days. yet you understand, it being under Society and lifestyle is clever to me too, because of persevering with conflict interior the famous society over whether to settle for gays, bi's, Trans, Lesbians, ect ... or to extinguish them.

society as a whole still does not recognize us as family. The sad part is that we all amongst ourselves consider us as an extended family, and they can't even think of us as just normal, which we are!
