I really hate to state the obvious here but the reason of suicied that that some people have become so happy they no longer wish to live. They don't want to wait for nature to takes it course and are generally impatient so they decide to play GOD, take their life into thier own hands (because they think they know what is best) and end it. Unfortuntly what most selfish people don't realize (and that what sucide is selfish) is that while they may end thier suffering and pain by ending it all they leave 10 times as much suffering and pain behind. Everyone feels guilty, Everyone thinks they should have seen it coming. If they would for just one moment THINK about how bad they feel and do they really want to inflict that pain on others then maybe they would make a choice to live. It's easy for people to say "Oh it will get better one day, just hang in there" when they have waited for that one day for a long time but still sucide is not the answer. I think it's selfish, arragoant, a cop out, and plain stupid.

Besides all of the symptoms of depression, and all the reasons for actually committing suicide, I believe it's when a person loses all hope for ever rectifying a problem or situation, when you are left with no hope at all and can't possibly find any other alternative to a situation then death seems the only likely resort. But then if a person has a sick mind (mentally) how would he be able to know if he were sick enough to seek help in the first place ? Some people just do not have the ability to rationalize problems and seek an alternative to their problems.

Hopeless, that things are only going to get worse, helpless that you will never be able to change your circumstances, worthlessness in the thoughts you cannot change these feelings and guilt for not being able to just be happy like everyone else and making others life miserable.

I am not saying these feelings cannot be changed. Only that these are reasons for suicide and feelings of suicide.

People who choose suicide do so because of their belief that there is no hope from the situation that they are currently experiencing. The lack of hope may be due to a dying spouse, loss of a loved one, or a tragedy of monumental proportion. There is no hope. There may not be any present hope but there are three points that this person without hope does not realize. First (and this surprised me because I always focused lovingly on the lack of hope and felt sorry for the person), the act of suicide is essentially a self-centered and selfish act. The act ignores the effect upon loved ones. It is awful. I have seen middle-aged sons of a mother who committed suicide when they were adults, suddenly and without provocation begin to cry about their loss. These were strong individuals, wealthy contractors by trade. Suicide harms others. Second, the person who commits suicide is happy just before the act believing the act of suicide will relieve them of the pressures of their lost hope. I wonder if they would be so happy if they knew the immense pain they will inflict on others. Third, this pain will not simply exist in this generation but will also exist in future generations. "Yes, Grandma committed suicide...maybe my situation is just as bad."

For those who think that one close to me has committed suicide, you are wrong. However, I am an attorney who has seen this act of brutality on others occur on my clients and an attorney/friend. I now have no sympathy on those who commit suicide. It is a selfish act of cruelty to others. They have spread the pain of their hopelessness to their loved ones and future generations. They have no right to hurt others and suicide is not a choice to even consider. There may not be any present hope but the person seeking to commit suicide has no right to be cruel to others. In my personal opinion, when there is no hope there is God and if you don't wish to believe that then simply don't be deeply cruel to others by doing such a selfish act. This position has come to me by experience and seems to be but is not, opposite to my loving emotions to those who are in a hopeless situation.

It's a copout. Life is supposed to be hard sometimes, suicide is the easy way out. Usually it's people who are weak of will, or they have a mental disorder like depression.

The one area where it's not a copout is in the case of someone who is termianlly ill, they have no hope of recovery and they're in pain. When the quality of life gets that bad, suicide is a blessing from god.

Durkheim states in a long, and nearly perfect book "Suicide" that basically suicide happens when the person is able to cognate the difference between what they dream can happen, and know can happen, and see no possible way of spanning that gap. People who are miserable but never see life as possible better don't kill them selves, happy people don't. People who see the gap between what they have, what they want, and see no way of getting it, they are prone.
