because its what we are used to...
people from many years ago invented words so that we could understand each other.. if they didnt made words we wouldnt be understanding each other and we are going to be confused.
they named things like our hearts.. but we couldnt rename them coz people are used to calling our hears heart instead of hammer. and if you rename them into hammer people wouldnt understand what you are talking about.
and by the way not all flowers are red. there are other colors too

By appointment and agreement... But we are not humans at least not yet..... Why... We are mammals the same as whales,monkey cows, dolphins......We are Man and Woman.... Human though we will only be when we decide to lower our borders, and clear away separating fences to become One humanity....

Well, it's because that is what these things are called... in English!
So if you want to get even more frustrated ask why a flower is called 'fleur' in French?, and why lightning is called 'blitzen' in German?, and why is hello 'salam' in Farsi? and why, and why and why......
A word is only a specific sound, but that sound is applied to a thing, concept, etc., so that intelligent human beings can then comprehend one another in their common language. .
I mean, if we all decided that a 'heart' will be called a 'hammer' from now on, then you'd understand the phrase 'my hammer is beating fast'! After all, wasn't it the Queen in 'Alice in Wonderland' who said "A word means just what I say it means"?
