Germans who immigrate are not minorities. Russians are not either. Why is it that one particualr group that does not speak English is considered a minority. Latinos can be white, black, asian, any race, so why are all considered minorities just because they speak spanish, especially white latinos. They are considered a minority simply because they speak spanish. That means Italians and all other non English speaking whites from other countries should be considered minorities as well.

Latino (and sometimes the form Latina for females), as used in American English, generally refers to an American of Latin American, especially Hispanic American heritage. It is a word borrowed from Spanish latino, shortened from latinoamericano

Spanish is the second most common language in the United States after English. There are more Spanish speakers in the United States than there are speakers of French (another language inherited from European colonization), Hawaiian, and the various Native American languages taken all together. According to the 2000 United States Census, Spanish is spoken most frequently at home by about 28.1 million people aged 5 or over. Of these, 14.3 million reported that they also spoke English "Very well" . United States is home to more than 40 million Hispanics; the fifth largest Spanish-speaking community in the world, after Mexico, Colombia, Spain and Argentina.

But the other groups you mention are, indeed, minorities. Check out history to see the amount of abuse and disregard that just about all new immigrants and minorities have gone through. Just take the Irish Catholics as one example. The issues come when language, cultural identity and other identifying features are more distinct than the cultural norm, making them stand out more. Most people are very cliquish and are confused and suspecting of differences which, for some reason, they see as threatening to their home spun values.
