Yes, it's a cell battery that looks like the ones you use in cameras, calculators and watches. This is larger, about an inch in diameter. It costs about a dollar. Get the replacement first (you can see the model no. on it) before doing a quick changeover.

Because it's so large, you should be able to see it clearly on the motherboard. It sits in a bracket. You need to very gently prise it out with one of those small watchmaker's screwdrivers or a sharp metal tool. Be careful not to damage anything around it. Put the new battery in immediately.

It really doesn't need changing for a long time. It's mainly to keep your PC clock on time.

How old is your computer? The bios batteries usually last a long, long time. They could look like a silver coin or a small cylinder of any color. They rarely need to be changed except on really old computers or ones that aren't used for years. They are often soldered in, and you might not want to mess with that. Are you trying to reset the bios, or what? I'm not sure you want to mess with this.

Unless something is blocking part of your view of the motherboard, you should be able to see it. The battery is about the size of a quarter and is round & silver coloured. It sits in a round plastic housing. Use a toothpick or small screwdriver to lift the battery out from the battery housing.

CMOS battery? It's sitting on the motherboard and you have to gut the PC to get at it. Get your screwdriver, remove the casing, lay PC flat, start removing the innards. Wait, make sure its unplugged! Wearing a grounding strap might be a good idea. Another good idea - remember where everything was and what it was plugged in to.
The CMOS battery will be about the size of a nickel, or it could be larger or smaller, and it could be anywhere on the motherboard. I sincerely hope you find it, sucessfully replace it, and your PC survives!

Sorry but if your motherboard has failed then its time to throw it away. I would not suggest trying to do anything to the battery in the motherboard unless you are a trained tech. Which from the sounds of your post you are not.

Bring it to a computer shop and see if they can tell you what went wrong!

the battery should be clearly obvious on the motherboard. it is a silver disk like a watch battery but bigger. You shouldn't need to unscrew anything.

Mayeb it is hidden under the HD housing....

If you do not see it clearly on th emotherboard, then it is hidden by something. It is the size of a Nickel adn almost looks like one. It has a little tab that you can press with your finger that will release it.

I don't know what system you have, but usually they are in plain sight. I've never had to search for one. See if you can get a schematic of your system online and go from there. You're not an idiot. These beasts can be complicated.
