April is low-season, a little less crowded and a bit cheaper too.

Kuta is an OK place to be if you're looking for night life, lots of choice.

Low-budget hotel area is nice in Legian, which is next to over-popular Kuta.

No need to make reservations, no need to go with the hustlers at the airport. Just take an airport taxi (ticket window) to Legian, drink a juice at any restaurant and drop your luggage there to walk around Legian and find a nice hotel. Easy as that.

So many nice places and tours around Bali. Check out the Lonely Planet website

Don't buy Rupiahs in your own country, it's expensive! If you have a credit card that works on an ATM machine, you will not need to carry a lot of cash. US dollars can be exchanged for a reasonable rate, but check out the different CHANGE offices. Do not change a lot of cash at the airport, lousy rate. But there is an ATM near the exit of the airport.

As for taxi to Kuta, do not go with the guys who offer you a taxi at the exit! The safest for a fair price is the airport taxi service, 20 meters to your right when you leave the airport building. Fixed price and secure.

Balinese people are friendly, but -- as in most tourist places around this planet -- need to make some money from you!

If you get tired with the vendors and the taxi drivers (every three steps you'll meet one), just say a friendly "thank you". But only say thank you, and do not give any explenation. This is a cultural thing and people will leave you in peace if just play it by their culture. If they continue, just repeat the "thank you" in a more persistant but still friendly manner. That's all it takes.

As for pick-pockets, yes. You find those in every tourist place in your own country too. So always watch your stuff, especially at the airport. Your hotel will provide you with a secure locker for your documents and small stuff. So you will have your hands free at the beach (great surf!)

If you get friendly (good morning - how are you today) with the hotel staff, they will do everything to make your stay very pleasant.

Food and shopping in Kuta is cheap, if you know how to bargain (nothing is fixed price, unless it has a price tag). Bargaining is also a cultural thing, it's a form of socializing. So, if you bargain friendly but firm..... you pay just a bit under half the price asked.
Don't be shy to bargain, name a rediculously low price, but keep smiling. The smile is the key to get around in Bali!

Just remember this one: in Bali, an openly angry person is considered a person who lost his face...... and will be treated as such.

April should be okay. Bali, just like other holiday spots, is more crowded during the public holidays (esp Hari Raya Idul Fitri, Christmas) and school holiday, which is in June / July.

Good places to stay, hmm... I think there should be some budget-friendly small hotels in Kuta area, as well as luxurious five stars with spa etc, lol. Perhaps you can check with your travel agent for further info! :)

P.S.:
Don't forget to visit the temples, try the banana boats, etc! I can't remember much about Bali, as the last time I went there was a couple of years back!

April is a perfect month to visit Bali. Usually it's sunny (but with current weather inconsistencies, who knows what will it be), and it's not yet the peak season.

Try to look for hotels around Legian and Seminyak if you are aiming for a less crowded vacation. If you prefer the busier nightlife, Kuta is your best bet.

There are a lot of budget hotels scattered around Kuta and Legian. Poppies Lane offers cheap accomodation -very basic lodging-. For a posh feel but still on a budget, try visiting the Casa Suites website: www.casasuites.com

Me and my honey stayed there for our getaway weekend, and it was fabulous. Clean, minimalist, simple but most importantly VERY CHEAP.

If you want to see other choices of accomodations, go to this website: www.balihotels.com there are a lot of references plus prices and pictures.

As for activities, if you like watersports you should visit Nusa Dua, for they have tons of activities there and not so expensive at all. You can parasail, hop on a banana boat and stuff. But if you're more into arts and culture, visit Ubud for the tranquil and artistic side of Bali. You can also visit hot night clubs along Seminyak if you're bored with Kuta. Go to Double Six and party all night. It's rumored that Paris Hilton dropped by just a couple of weeks ago. Maybe you'll bump into some more international celebs too.

Have fun in Bali!

If you're booked onto a package then Bali will be lovely, stay away from the Kuta area which is the most expensive and also the most crouded. Howvewr, if you have the choice avoid Bali and go to Java or sulawesi instead, Sulawesi especially is the best place in the world!!!
