I have not have ants as extensively as you have described, but when I have on the occasion seen them march through my kitchen, I place TAT down. Little orange tins that are sold at supermarkets. They always work for me.
Good luck.

This is a cheap remedy and I know for a fact that it works as I use it every year. Good Old 20 Mule Team Borax laundry soap!
Put the dry soap in one of the cheap ketchup squirt bottles that you can find in any dollar store, you may have to snip the tip off to enlarge the hole a little. Apply the dry laundry soap along baseboards and along the base of kitchen cabinets, and along the back splash of the cabinets, don't leave any foods set out on counters or floors, when your cat finishes eating put his or her bowl in a zip lock bag if there is any food left in it.
Leave the laundry soap lay for a few days until you no longer see any signs of the ants. They will carry it back to their nest and it will kill them, then vacuum up any remaing soap and discard of it, use the rest of the box of soap to do your laundry with!
You may also want to put a little of the soap around the plumbing under the sink where the water lines come in and the drain pipe, also do this under vanities in the bathroom....this should do the trick I have a cat and dogs and they never bother the laundry soap.

If you really want to get rid of them fast, pour gas or diesel on them...NOT IN YOUR HOUSE, of course, but on the hill, or if you are environmentally friendly, find two ant hills. With a shovel, dig a big shovelful out of one ant bed, and place it dead center in the middle of the other one . Do the same with the other ant bed. They will fight each other to the death, and kill the hills. Try to get beds from different sides of the yard. Make sure they are different colonies.

Ants become a nuisance when they enter homes. Instead of spending money on costly pest control, you can get rid of ants by removing the food source and using soap water. I found the information at http://www.pests.in useful.

try putting peppermint on a small piece of paper towel around the areas, also try to find the 'home' and peppermint it. If that doesn't work try calling an exterminator.

Bay leaves are a good, natural way to keep them at 'bay'. You can put a few of them in your cabinets, along your counters, etc.
