Well it could be a number of things. Asthma, Bronchitis, pneumonia, infections, poor conditioning, alergies, you name it. The only way to find out is a visit to the Doctor. The chest pains could be gerd or something like that. I know when i was out of shape I got gerd, and it caused me to get and cough up phlem. I would just suggest a Dr. Visit!

Hi. Even though his symptoms make it sound like he has lung problems (infections, etc.) I think its a gastric Problem (GERD). Alot of people have this problem where there is reflux of the gastric contents into the esophagus, thus, causing pulmonary efussion of mucus, and chest pain due to either vapor inhalation, small (very small) aspiration of gastric contents. It can be cured by simply changing dietary habits such as not drinking cofee, no spicy food, cutting down on fatty food, and not overdoing it with the meal at dinner time. Nevertheless, see your physician about it.

Possibly a chest infection that can be cured with anti-biotics. But I don't know of any doctors on this site who are medically qualified, so your friend should see his doc.If he coughs up yellow or green gunge, more likely to be an infection...but don't take my word for it

thats pretty odd becaue you kind of described whats going on with me right now. but i have a thing that keeps me awake coughing, like something is catching in my throat when i breathe. but ive had the chest pains too, but for me its not like, internal chest pains, its like, my chest BONE hurts. its weird. mine lasted almost 2 weeks, but i think im getting over it now. *crosses fingers* im on an allergy medication called Zyrtec thats helping me, i also bought an air purifier for my room which is nice. hope i helped.
