I was just wondering how welcome I would be in your country. I'm British, just finishing University (degree in Archaeology). It is my ambition to come and live and work in the USA as I have loved your nation since I was there as a child at the age of 7.

I would of course be qualified and eager to start work straight away, I would like to enter in to the environmental/ conservation sector and get a steady job that would push me hard. I have friends I could stay with until I had enough money to get a place of my own, they are kind enough to see me through while I settle in.

Am I likely to recieve a warm reception? I would be arriving alone and would throw myself straight in to work (providing job already arranged), using weekend time to hunt for housing etc etc.

PS, any blinding cultural differences I should be aware of? Social do's and do-not's that might be different to the UK?

Thanks a lot!

PS, not sure yet which part of the USA I'd most like to settle in to!

As long as you don't belong to any religion involved in trying to out-breed all other religions, you sound like a good addition to the population of America.

I think you will find the US to be a very welcoming country. That's what's great about our country....it is a melting pot of different cultures, religions and beliefs. That's how our country was built ...by people from all over the world. I think you'll love it here. It's good that you have friends to help you get around and get settled in. I don't think we're that different from your country...the people I mean.Good luck to you.

You would not only find yourself welcome here, but a lot of people would come forward as friends. Doesn't matter where you go to in the US. There are taboos everywhere. I lived in UK for 4 years and the difference between there are here is night and day. You will love it.

I would have to say you'd be welcomed. Most Americans automatically assume the British to be intelligent and cultured (we just LOVE the accent).
