yes but you have to be cautious as the seeds have to be fresh, old seeds just bring you sparrows. Fresh ones will get you cardinals and song birds.

NAH sorry,
this is an old wives tale !!!!!!
However you can grow Bird seed plants ( mainly grasses)
and attract many a bird to your yard !!
NOTE:
hemp seeds are often found , as ,part of the seeds, in a mixed packet of birdseed .
BUT!!! look out for hemp plants , ( they are illegal to grow !!)
and you could wind up "doing bird " LOL!
Ehem
forget it ,let the birds breed and they will grow birds for you .

you can't actually grow a bird but you sure can attract them to where you planted the seed. it would be a metaphoric term: to plant birdseed and grow birds.

try planting the birds about 6 in's deep and water daily as needed, if they fly way plant new ones and get a bird feeder in some bushes and they will feed there
