in a magnetic field, beta radition to the positive side or alpha to the negative side. I would have thought Beta would have gone further seeing as it is lighter but a book says it's Alpha? Is the book wrong as Ive seen Beta go further in many other books? Many thanks

I may be wrong here but I think that if the alpha particles are going about twice as fast as the beta then the arcs would be the same. As alphas are over 4000 times more massive than electrons though I think you would really desperately need to slow a beta down before you saw this.

The mass of the particles is negligable compared to the force acting on them, and Alpha particles have twice the charge.
