For me, Horseback Riding competivily is expensive as all get out, no matter what type you do (reining, hunter/jumpers, eventing, barrel racing, etc.) because of all that is involved.
First, you need a horse (either lease or own) which can cost anywhere from fifty dollars to several thousand (even a million) dollars
Then you need tack - saddles, bridles, saddle pads, girth, boots for the horse, martingales etc
Rider equiptment - britches, chaps, jackets, stock ties, helmets, tall boots, ratcatcher shirts, gloves, stock pins etc
Then there are medical bills, vet bills, dentist bills, farrier bills, boarding bills (if you dont keep the horse at your house) have to buy feed, hay, upkeep of the farm, show/entry fees, trailering fees if you don't drive yourself, and so much more.
This is just a partial list of everything a horseback rider needs, its not a one time payment either, you're constantly replacing tack and paying for new things, and taking care of an animal. But in the end, if you love what you do, it should be worth it. :-)
Hope this helps

professional drag racing is the most expensive. The cars almost get rebuilt after every few passes. New rear tires after every pass.Travel expenses from one track to the next over the high ways, fuel food transport maintenance etc it adds up

Stock car racing has to rank up there, at least in the top 5. One set of tires costs more than I make in a month.
