Does anyone know of a creature that drains life energy?

Question

I was having a nightmare and this dark being/cloud was next to my bed draining the life from me. I tried to move, but I couldn't. I also had the impression that any light source would ward it off, but when I got my hand to touch the light switch, it didn't work. This is NOT my first encounter with something that looks like that, but I do not know what it is.

New ageists and Hindus says that these are Incubus or Succubus ( or similarly creatures )

1. Some schools of thought say they feed on sexual energy of a sleeping person.... but most say that they feed on the Fear of that person. The more fear you are generating the more satiated they will feel and the weaker YOU will feel. Some call this psychic rape.

2. The best way to ward them off is by consciously willing yourself to be calmer. If you are religious, call upon the strength of your celestial guardians ( angels, malaikat etc ) and calm down.... the more you fight the happier these "entities" become. Just remember... they are NOT able to kill you.

3. A less mystical reason for the "paralysis" according to Chinese Herbal Doctors is that you are sleeping face up and your feet could be exposed to cold, and a wind source is rushing thru your air passage, causing the sensation of heaviness in the chest. ( the feet hold quite a number of accupressure points that effect our body ) At the point of your brain "waking up" your body is still in deep sleep where your body is relatively in a "paralysed" sleep... so.... woken mind, sleeping body syndrome :)

Some people refer to this as the "old Hag". Seriously! If you are really having problems moving or even breathing while in bed, but your eyes are open and you feel aware of your surroundings, this may be a form of sleep paralysis.
For some reason, many people that experience this recall having an old hag or screaming demon on their chest for several minutes. Yes, light will - for whatever reason - chase the hag away, and people find themselves able to move again.

if you are not a religious person i can give you some traditional things that will ward off evil and negative energies.

without seeing it I cannot tell you exactaly what it is. it does fit several of the desctriptions givven but thare are over 100 evil fey and unseelie spirits out there that could match this description.

burn some sage in the room that will help either way.

I once astral traveled to see my Girlfriend and appeared as a dark figuar next to her bed. Freaked her out.

Could be someone obsessing over you to the point of becomming a vampire. As in astral traveling either intentionally or acidentaly to your room and wanting your attention so bad they drain your energy.
Do you have any stalkers?
Try a little Lily of the valley oil, worn or dripped on bed, if this is the case.

For a general protection try grinding up 2 parts dragons blood, 2 parts sandal wood and one part salt and sprinkle around your home/room/bed to stave off any negativity.
Or smolder 2 parts Frankincencse, 1 part sandal wood and 1/2 part rosemary before you sleep.

Its called a "Lethifold" or the living shroud, as described n fantastic beasts and where to find them, by Newt Scamander.

The Lethifold is a mercifully rare creature which is found mainly in tropical regions. It resembles a half inch thick cloak ( thicker if it has recently killed and digested a victim).

There are kinds of life that try to create fear in us because
they are sustained off of the fear energy. From lower dimensions.
They are the ones with red eyes. We create these things
with our fears, (negative energies).
As far as psychic vampires. I hear they are the spirits of
ones who practiced Dark magic in this world. And naturally
become part of the destructive, (recycling), aspect of things.
They drain lifeforce from humans in an attempt to maintain
their existence, to keep from falling into the abyss.
But if my understanding is correct. It's only thier own evil
heart and guilt that makes them have to live like this. Because
