I've been living in Michigan for about two years now. I have yet to meet a Michigander who likes winter. I like winter, by the way, and I've seen two Michigan winters and they don't seem too bad. There is a lot of snow. However, the road snow crews kick total butt. It can snow like a foot or two, then stops, then the crews clear the roads and an hour or two later you can drive just about anywhere, go shopping, to the movies, out to eat, not that bad in my mind. The temperature gets down into the teens, but I haven't seen anything insanely bitter cold. I should tell you that I am in South East Michigan, inbetween Detroit and Lansing, Flint and Ann Arbor, where US 23 and M 59 meet. If you lived near the lakes, you will get colder and snowier weather. Michigan actually has an Upper Pennisula where things get insanely Arctic. Where I live, there is snow half the year. Up in the UP (Upper Pennisula) you might only get four months without snow. We have many broad leaf trees, not a whole lot of needle trees, but they are here too. Michigan's got lots of state parks which are called metro parks. There's alot of tourism. It can sometimes rain a lot, I guess that depends on what you are used to. I would call the climate temperate forest.

I am well traveled. Michigan has cold weather and snow because of it's northern location as well it borders Lake Michigan, but in summers it is nice and most of the states do get hot in the summer months from June- mid Sept.
California is a very large state and it varies where you are at. The south is the warmest and most people reside there while the north is the coolest, and can get raw sometimes. It has deserts and mountains and earthquake prone. Maybe this will help.

It really depends are what part of California or Michigan you are talking about. Especially California, as the climate is very different between Northern California and Southern California.
Michigan, though, probably has much more distinct seasons. Hot summers, pleasant autumns and springs, and cold, snowy winters.

You're not really that ignorant, are ya? Southern California is much warmer than northern California, which is rather mountainous. Obviously, it snows up there a lot, where as in the southern part of the state you don't see that. As far as Michigan goes, the lower peninsula is somewhat warmer than the upper peninsula, but the differences aren't nearly as dramatic as they are in California.
