Corruption is a 2 way process. One is to GIVE for getting his work done and the other one is to TAKE for doing favour lawfully or unlawfully.
Therefore it is us also who are equally responsible for this menace.
Besides why blame the officials only ?
It is the general public who is responsible for not paying due taxes, for power loss by not paying electricity bills, for not following the law of the land, for helping all sort of corruption. Our AC will be on but not the meter. Our factories will be running on full power but without any elec. meter.
In a gathering of 1000 people if you ask what do they think of corruption, all will respond that it should end.i.e. 100% people want to end it. Then why it is not eliminated when every body wants to end it ? That means it is most of us who are not against it.We are just doing lip service. One question. How one can be patriotic and corrupt at the same time ?? This also suggests that we are hypocrites and dont love our motherland.
Therefore if we have to make our country free of corruption, we also have to free ourselves from all sort of curroption.
Then only we can fight corruption.
Jai Bharat....

The same day that pigs will sprout wings and fly....on February 31 of any given year. In short, never. All politicians are corrupt - some are just more corrupt than others. Some get caught, some don't. It's just a matter of electing the least corrupt. And boy did people screw up in 2004 when they elected Bush The Village Idiot.

The apathetic answers above show why there's so much corruption in today's political arena: WE ALLOW IT. This attitude of "What can we do?" and "They all do it" and "There's no stopping it" and "That's the way it's always been," are just what the corrupt rely on!
WHAT can we do? If we were to stop playing pawns to those who divert our attention from the real important issues, if we were to demand that excellence from our elected officials and hold them accountable and demand they leave office or we impeach... if we were to stop allowing them to herd us like cattle so they can pass laws to benefit THEM first above and beyond the rest of the populace (as though they were the ruling class in a monarchy)... that would certainly cause positive changes. It's time we got rid of the deadbeats and the fatcats!
THEY all do it? Well, than we start making changes and get rid of them and replace them until we're left with those that are not corrupt. The public is fed up with the corrupt shenanigans but they continue BECAUSE WE ALLOW THEM, we do not protest and demand they be removed. The checks and balances are there but we fail to use them.
THERE'S no stopping it? Yes, there's no stopping it if we don't start to make the changes needed. They rely on our apathy and our ignorance. Why don't we demand that they tell us the truth under penalty of imprisonment if they lie in public, to an audience or via the media? They talk the talk but refuse to walk the walk... because we do not make the demands!
THAT'S the way it's always been? Time to start making changes. Repeating the same mistakes ain't gonna give us any different reults and we've seen this throughout history... time to make changes in the kind of people we elect to represent us. Why do we settle for 12 ounces of bullshit when we pay for 16 ounces of competence?
They are not the ruling class! WE hired them to do a job and they consistently fail and lie with excuses... so, let's get rid of them! There are crooks and liars in both parties. Let's start cleaning up BOTH parties. Don't send them to Washington, DC... send them to hell.
Why is is it that people are afraid of asking the questions that makes them uncomfortable? I've made more than a few politicians uncomfortable in my lifetime... and I find it fun! There's a starting point. And we must follow up by holding them accountable and not accepting excuses for their failure to keep their word...! There are too many sheep amongst us! Time to weed them out and start making demands and holding those jackals accountable and making them KEEP their campaign promises.
Don't let a Judas-goat try to use sophistry to excuse the elected officials; he probably has a comfortable job doing very little more than reading a newspaper or listening to a radio or watching TV for a few pieces of silver, or has a relative in an elected position.
Hasn't any one of the readers ever read Orwell's book, "1984"? Damned, it's happening right now and not one other living person has noticed this? We're handing this country over to the super rich and powerful and they're going to enslave us all financially! Wake up people! It's real, it's no joke... just look around... this ain't no doomsday sayer yelling nonsense. Read the book and see for yourself.
Does anyone remember the words by JFK, "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for the country?" It refers also to not waiting for someone else to do what is right; it means that it is up to us to do what is right for the sake of the country, and ultimately, for ourselves. Think hard and act on your conscience when voting; forget your political party feelings and consider the issues, not your prejedices.
So, the answer to your question is that the government officials will work without corruption WHEN WE PUT A STOP TO THE CORRUPTION and WHEN WE STOP RE-ELECTING CORRUPT INDIVIDUALS.

It is very Common in developing countries. People should discourage corruption. Particularly in India people dont have patiency. People will stick out 100 Rs to go out of way to get the job done.
Basically corruption comes out of irresponsible and poorly educated people. Government should give minimum 5 year imprisonment for those people who give and accept bribe.Atleast government should forfeit all the qualification like casting vote, stand in election and giving admission to government college admission etc., Then people will forget corruption forever. Atleast government can put wall poster of people who give and accept bribe.
