I have a guinea pig named Miss. Piggles. She is really sick and I've been staying awake for 3 and a half days now just watching her suffer. Please help me. I have no money for a vet and and the animal hospial is out of the question. She won't eat, drink, poop, pee, move, and she is having a lot of trouble breathing. I don't know what to do for my baby. I know guinea pigs are considered lesser mammals but I love my baby to death. Her eyes are covered with puss and her nose is runny. All I need is some ideas on what to do to get my mind off her for a while. I have not gotten any sleep lately and I am falling apart in school, at home, and I won't take my friend's calls. They are getting worried too. I'm really sad and honestly I've never cried this much in my life. Please give me positive feedback and I won't tolerate any answers like, Suck it up or It's just a stupid pig etc. Please and thank you signed, Spritefreek :*(

Your guinea pig has a URI. (Upper Rspiratory Infection) Please work out a payment plan or something with the vet. YOU NEED TO GET TO A VET NOW. This is very fatal. Guinea Pigs do not usually show signs of illness until it is too late.
URIs are deadly bacterial infections that can result in death if untreated.
Signs of a URI:

Refusal to eat or drink (anorexia)
No feces (as a result of not eating)
Labored breathing, wheezing
Sneezing, coughing
Crusty eyes, eyes that are almost sealed shut
Discharge from eyes or nose (read about normal Eyes)
Dull and/or receding eyes
Rough or puffed-up coat
Lethargy, hunched posture

See a vet immediately if you see any of these signs. Because URIs are so deadly and fast moving, it is imperative that the vet rules out a URI before considering the possibility of an allergy.
WHAT YOUR VET MAY DO

The vet will check for hydration.
A stethoscope can be used to listen to the lungs and heart.
An x-ray may be taken to check for fluid in lungs.
The vet may culture the bacteria to help determine which antibiotics are most effective.
TREATMENT

A vet will prescribe a safe antibiotic like Bactrim or Doxycycline to treat these bacterial infections. Baytril, another frequently prescribed medication, is usually not given to young guinea pigs because it can cause arthropathies (bone abnormalities) although it can be an effective treatment.

Unknowledgeable vets may prescribe medications like Amoxicillin that can be deadly to your pet so be sure to research the deadly "Piggy Pills".
TAKE YOUR GUINEA PIG TO THE VET NOW.

Sorry you have to go through this, but if you can't afford the vet, you can't afford the pet.
3 1/2 days??? How can you let that go on? Take her to the vet and arrange for some kind of payment plan. Most vets will do that.
By now you'll probably have to have her put to sleep to end the suffering.
Cancel your internet for a month, that will cover the expense.
Sorry I'm being rude, but I just don't see how people can let their pets suffer like this and then get on the damn computer to cry about it, just to get "their minds of of her for a while".
I'm sure you won't like my answer, but if you don't want people to be honest with you, don't post questions on the internet. And please, do not IM me either.

It's not just a stupid pig - she's your friend & you need to do the best thing by your friend. Take her to a vet - offer to do some cleaning/gardening or something for them to pay it off if things are that hard - it will show them that you're willing to come to some sort of agreement as to how to pay for their expertise service. If she is still savable you will have a long road of recovery with her seeing as it has been left for a while but it is possible. Perhaps the kindest thing is to let her go, get her put out of her misery quickly. A lot of vets don't require immediate payment for euthanasia. It's ok to feel sad about this & you're just making it worse by dragging it out longer than it has to go on for. Whatever happens you will always have your memories of your little girl.

Just try going up to the vets and see if they will trat her on a bill, ive done this before then you can pay a small amount to the vet each month. I would just take her and see if they can do anything no real vet with real animal commitment would ever let a animal suffer in pain, even if they have to pay them selfs, try a couple of vets.

I really hope she gets better soon, good luck and take care xxxx

For someone who says "I love my baby to death" that is exactly what you are doing. You refuse the obvious, sweetie.....medical help. Crying and throwing a hissy fit is not going to help this poor animal!!! There is always a way to cover the expense if you are that desperate! Your paragraph focuses in on how you feel and you did not put the needs of the animal first. This little thing will hopefully mercifully die soon. I suggest that you do not have any more pets until you are able to care for them properly which includes taking them to the vet when needed. I say shame on you for being so selfish.....you are to blame for that animals suffering. I hope you do not plan on having children until you can take life seriously. Sorry if this is not what you want to hear, sweetiue.....but sometimes the truth hurts!

My seroius opinion is that your level of awareness defines you concept of heaven or hell, and you can't imagine ("go there") without a formed idea. Since babies have no idea of such places, how can they go there? My guess is a baby's heaven would be in mom's arms forever. Imperishable means that it can't decay, rot. IE What you did two seconds ago is imperishable because once it's done, we can't go back in time and change it, it is forever, indelible, etc. What u are is what u do, who u are is defined by it, after all, babies didn't do anything.

oh I am very sorry its sad. It makes no difference what kind of animal she is, she is your baby. I know you dont have any money for the vet but there is no other way because she is sick. She may just need some antibiotic or something because shes not going to get better on her own.
Is there no kind of animal shelter you can take her to that would help you to guide you what to do?
Or try going to the pet store and asking what you can do?
Have you tried an online search of guinee pig symptoms of illnesses?
Its not just a stupid pig but you shouldnt sit there and watch her suffer.
Also, if you dont mind my advice. Take your friends calls you cant shut yourself from the world.

The best thing you can do is take your baby to the vet. Veteranarian. There are no home remedies for a very sick pet. If you had a human baby what would you do first? Ask strangers online what to do, or rush him or her to a hospital? They have 24 hour vets, and pet hospitals. Find one, and take the baby there, before its too late. The pet hospital, just like a human hospital will take your pet in right away, and let you make small payments

Your piggy is suffering, and if she is still alive when you read this, you need to take her to the vet. You say you have no money, but lots of vets can set up payment plans...or, if worse comes to worse, you can "surrender" her so they can at least put her to sleep and end her pain.

If you really care for her (and it sounds like you do) you will do what is right and take your little one to the vet, because she's in rough shape, and a loving owner will suck it up and do what needs to be done to care for their pets. I've been broke lots of times and that's usually when a pet gets sick, but I've always managed to take them to the vet. Don't hesitate any longer, call the vet NOW.

call your local SPCA. They some times take in sick animals and send them to the vet for help. But if they believe there is no way to help your pet and it is going to die no matter what, they will put it to sleep. there is also the other possibillity: someone that can afford a vet will adopt your pet and make her better. she will not be with you if that happenes but she wont be sufferring any more if a vet can help. and if she is adopted you know that person wanted her and will love her. So call & show them your pet and see what they tell you to do.
