The penguin's body is streamlined, so it can glide through water with barely no resistance. This allows it to move faster and use less energy.
They waddle because it is the most effective way to get around for them. Their short legs do not allow quick running, but gliding on their belly allows them to move faster on sloped land.

Since the penguin is considered a member of the "bird" family, their bodies are shaped in such that manner. They have other special formations that allow them to utilize cold places as their habitat. Penguins have a heavier skeleton than most birds, waterproof feathers, and specialized glands that extract and excrete excess salt. The feathers are stiff, short and grow close together. These feathers grow over a thick coat of fluffy down. Their feathers, which even cover their bills and feet, combine with a thick layer of fat to insulate them. This works so effectively that the birds frequently overheat in the frigid waters. Penguins swim like other birds fly. Their wings have not disappeared, nor have they become vestigial, useless appendages. Instead, they've evolved into flippers. Penguins use highly developed muscles to flap their wings to move forward, and they guide themselves with their tail. Penguins may seem to walk like humans, however, they actually just "waddle." This is due to their very short legs. This allows them to get around efficiently on the ice.

The only people I've seen who walk like penguins are either in serious need of hip replacement surgery, or three-sheets-to-the-wind.

their body is adapted to swimming and less for terestrial life.their fat keeps them warm in the icy waters and their feathers are waterproof,so water would not get to their skin and cause them freeze to death-the wind is awfully ccccold out there..they don't just walk like us,they also slip on their belly when getting into or out of the water.they also need the standing up position to keep their eggs warm-if they would sit on them just like that they would simply crash them..they also gather in large colonies to keep warm to each other-they are colonial birds...why don't u watch more often animal planet or discovery or national geographic..?hm?
