Give up Annie! An illegal version can be traced now by Norton and they are shutting them all down now, so it will be totally useless to you and a waste of time you trying to get it.

For good, free and recommended security programs go here http://www.webuser.co.uk/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/219333/an/0/page/0#219333

From that list, may I recommend you select AVG for anti virus, Zone Alarm for firewall, AVG Anti Spyware and Spyware Blaster.

Depending on how safe you surf, you may not need an active monitoring app,
such as TeaTimer, which is in Spybot S&D.

By installing the hosts file, IE-SPYADs, SiteAdvisor and WinPatrol,
you will have a pretty good line of defense which won't use up any resources.
this is the link you reqire for the apps http://temerc.com/hddncounttuts.html

And of course a firewall is a must,
tho the XP SP 2 firewall is not sufficient in my opinion.
It only blocks incoming attacks, and should something get thru and that's always possible,
then it can call out to get more things installed or use your machine as a zombie
I'd recommend Zone Alarm, but one of the older versions from here:
http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=zalarm

Either of the 4.5 versions seem to work best, less buggy than current ones

I genuinely have Norton information superhighway secure practices bundled with my BT Yahoo broadband equipment, and that i even have the unfastened A-squared anti-virus programme (even had AVG till those days). i've got had no issues updating and working the two programme, however i would not run the two on the comparable time - slows computer right down to a crawl on the same time as scanning. So attempt it and spot. Or, extremely than uninstalling, disable Norton on the same time as attempting Avast. you would be wanting to set a fix factor till now you do any adjustments. As My Brainhurt has warned: sparkling out any quarantined nasties first.

They don't want you to have it for free, and even the Norton you pay for is no good.

It screwed up my computer, and I ended up having to get AVG (which is a good anti-virus) which also isn't cheap -- but could not uninstall Norton cause it wouldn't let me, and it pops up worthless redundant securty alerts all the time, and if they get too many I have to reboot -- the only hope I have is my subscription is about to expire, and my great desire is that this will get Norton off my computer for good.

oops my best solution for u and best advice is dont ever use norton..!!
becoz i will tell u the reason.. im not bla-blab..!!
norton program requires lot virtual space.. which rather depends on ur pc cache size and ram size.. so.. my best solution is download panda(by microsoft) or macafee these are too gud and also u can use them for 6-months free trial version properly registered with the company.. just go to the respective site and u can download it..
hope i made my point clear.. ))

Before running after these *branded* anti-virus programs, may I bring the following link to your notice
http://tech.cybernetnews.com/2006/09/04/and-the-best-antivirus-is/

And I use AVG antivirus, free version, no problem so far. Of course, you have to support anti-virus effect with the use of anti-spywares like Spybot
