this is not a scientific answer, just a guess, i dont believe in sixth sense in humans or animals, i believe some creauters are more perceptive than others. animals live in nature, are in contact with it all the time, while humans have too many other things on their mind and have drawn thensleves away from nature, so i think animals may have perceived some signs we humans are not aware of. for example animals can hear more and at different frequencies than us, so they may hear the signs of an earthquake coming long before we experience it.

Sixth sense is not what we use to escape a disaster or calamity. Sixth sense is what we are actually born with and the usage differs from person to person. The sense that drove the animals to safety before Tsunami struck was because the animals live not by their wisdom but by their fear. Most of the animals live by fear toward their predators but the human being live not by fear but by wisdom and practice. The Tsunami disaster was a disaster as far as the human casualty is concerned because the dead did not know one before. If the accident was as same as what the human being see everyday on the road it could have been easily avoided but the magnitude of the disaster and the frequency of the disaster was first unheard of. Sixth Sense never comes into question on this case rather it was the preparedness of the life after disaster. But as I said earlier we are all born with sixth sense but the usage differs amongst people. Sixth sense is used even to hit a mosquito my dear. In the sleep don't we hit the mosquito on its head? All thanks to sixth sense.

Possibly. Don't forget that some animals have more acute and keen senses than we do (ie. dogs have excellent hearing and an excellent sense of smell).
For examples dogs - recently in the news there has been discussion about a survey - whether dogs really can detect skin cancer by the smell (apparently one woman's life was saved when her dog kept obsessively sniffing the cancer, which looked like any other mole in general observation, she had it checked out and was diagnosed with melanoma, skin cancer). There is also a popular belief that dogs can "sense" (as in 6th sense) when their owner is coming back, before they even see their owner coming back to the home. I don't know whether this belief it is a true/proved fact or not.
But the possibility that animals have a 6th sense isn't new. For all we know, they might. But it could also be their other senses.

Yes, which is also known as intuition or gut feeling. Animal instinct is entirely a different thing, it has nothing to do with sixth sense. Its just that in animals certain senses perhaps are diffrently developed than ours, their perceptions are different and their main focus is on survival it self, hence they may be more perceptive to disastors i guess.
But i dont think 6th sense is scientifically prooven, so i can safely say it is the gut feeling that we humans have.
Paying attention to what the mind is saying is very important, having said that i would like to add that its not entirely out of the body thing, it is also what n how u have learned in yr life, and that very subconciously feeds the sixth sense, whether we realize it or not.

It is just an instinct out of deeper perception levels ....
They lack self awareness, so survival instincts are needed more to protect the species.
Humans have to consciously exercise their will to evolve this perception, since the self awareness keeps itself stuck into the normal five sense organs most of the time, and therefore 'too busy' !
Sixth sense is just a name to indicate that it is also a perception item, like the 5 senses (not that all animals necessarily have all the 5 senses, or exactly the same 5 ).

Animals have more capability than we do, so the earth quacks for some animals is like an alarm for a human. I think they should develop some researches to use this animal instinct in real life. But for the human sixth sense, I think there is no such a thing. Maybe you guess something true but that doesn't mean that you knew for sure that it's going to happen.

interesting question.
Well i think it's a bit of both! Animals have a great instinct, but how did they know how far away to run and when? Human's have 6th sense too. Ever been driving and you brake for no reason, then out comes a car from the side of the road? all creatures and humans have it, just gotta know how to use it. Now you have got my brain thinking!!!

Hi,
yes! you can say there is something which exists as 'sixth sense' in some living creatures! mostly in animals!scientificaly we call it their instict , but in normal lanuage we regard it as their sixth sense! they hv the power to smell out the danger awaiting them! this sixth sense also develops in some humans who hv lost one of their 5 senses! this happens b'coz when a person loses his any of the sense, he himself tries to make use of his other senses to compensate the loss of the sense organ he has lost! as the time passes he becomes able to use his other senses for figuring out things which he used to do with his lost sense organ!
hope that helps out
bye!

Humans also have a sixth sense, called Intuition. This intuition can be true or can also be false.
By nature, animals definitely have been given a sixth sense which you can call it as the sixth sense.

Other animals can hear, see, and smell much better than humans can.
They may also be able to sense electro-magnetic vibrations (seismic waves) better than we can.
Their perception is far different to ours.
It is not a "sixth sense," it is entirely different senses.
