Once it was the black man, then the Oirish (Irish), then the single mother, then the binge drinker, then the asylum seeker, then the fatties, then the binge drinker again, now the Muslim woman. Wait til next week the news will find something else to worry about.

Yes I am sick of the story.

No, because I don't think we should ignore that there are inequalities in this country. This is just the tip of the iceberg - brits have had enough of having to pander to the sensitivities of this group for far too long, and have finally had enough. There needs to be a serious re-evaluation of what this country is prepared to put up with and where the line should be drawn.

Quite simply anyone who wants to come and live here should not be able to insist that our country change to suit them, they should be adapting to life here. That means learning the language, adopting the customs and not going completely over the top when something "offends" them. If we are that offensive, why the hell are they still living here?

Lets keep this pressure on, because we are not an arab country, we are a CHRISTIAN european country, and no amount of threats, protests, terrorist acts, fatwah's and jihads should change that. I choose to believe in a benevolent christian god, not the ravings of a murderous paedophile whose god insists that all infidels convert or die.

Question no. 977 concerning the veil...the UK may or may not have tired of reading about veils - but as long as the media print them, Yahoo Answers will always have half a dozen of related questions stalking their pages - and as it is, we will get people coming out of the woodwork to squeal and scream - which basically means some of us dears will never tire of it. And the more we can spew filth about the 'ways' of the Muslims on a mature site, the more important we will be, hmm?

As Londoner suspects - could be nobody gave it a second thought until Mr. Straw mentioned it...he has been the MP of Blackburn (30% Muslim inhabitants) since 1979 - it's taken him some time to vent his spleen!

I am sick to death about hearing about the poor Muslim teacher who is not allowed to wear her veil! She happily took it off for her job interview even though she was interviewed by a MAN!!

Do muslims think all men are rapists who cannot control themselves? I feel the veil dehumanises women and is sexist towards both men and women. Whats wrong with a friendly handshake or an innocent smile?

Not turning up in her veil for an interview and expecting it to be OK to wear it in school? Deceptive? Hypocritical? Just a tad!

Yes, Constant Boring C R A P on the news regard the "Veil" but even more and more Boring is seeing hordes of their Women (?) clad head to foot in what amounts to a Disguise , infesting our Cities , Towns , Villages and Hamlets , creeping about like Ghouls, and "Demanding" this and that , being "Offended" at every opportunity . they are Gradually destroying our Culture , "WHEN IN ROME" or clear off out of Great Britain

I have a Muslim friend she is only wearing her Veil at the moment because it is Ramadan, she does not normally wear it, Ramadan lasts 1 month. She will also wear it at Eid (Eid is equivalent to Christmas)
If you saw her the rest of the time she is very westernised, when she came to the UK she could not speak English nor would she socialise with men, she does both now. She is from Libya, her husbands children have a white British mum and she is doing a great job as a step mother (as the kids do not live with their mum, as their mum used to knock them about)
The kids are being treated great by this lovely young lady.

I say if they don't want to learn English and they do not want to fit in most of the time, then send them back, also if a non English person commits a crime here, then the whole family should be deported.

Where rules of a country are inconsistent people disrespect them. So at present we say it is OK for Muslim women to wear the veil, although it is a cultural artifact not a religious one yet at the same time a woman is denied the right to wear a crucifix. In any case the veil is incompatible with our culture of eye to eye, face to face contact. People who don't like that are free to leave.

I doubt many people gave much thought to it until Straw went and opened his trap, the way I see it is if that is what they want to wear so be it, I don't care what they look like and it's personal choice.

What next, demanding Sikhs remove their turbans?! And another stupid story I heard on the radio was a woman sacked from British Airways (I think she was working for BA) for displaying her crucifix on her necklace when apparently such symbols are permitted if tucked in and not visible.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Yeah it's pretty boring now. It annoys me how much anger has come from it. The woman that was asked to take her cross off the other day hasn't been picketing downing street and trying to get herself on the news every day. Give it a rest now, they're not helping their cause...

im getting tierd of the whole thing to do with beliefs and how people cannot show them also. theres another story how british airways told one of their stewardesses she couldnt work because she was wearing a cross on her necklace. she could only wear it if it was conceled under her clothing.yet people following other faiths are allowed to wear things for their religion.what kind of world are we living in where a person can not express who they are and what they believe. i think things are going too far these days with being politically correct and not offending people - getting silly now
