Only people on TV shows give a crap about that. Go with the yellow roses and pink roses if you're going for friendship, I guess... red is obviously deeper.

Valentine's Day, use red. Friendship day, use orange or pink. Yellow means goodbye.
Alternatively, get one of those funny ones dyed blue, my friend gave me one and I will never forget her for as long as I live.

err...
red obvious.
yellow friendship.
pink.... errrr....
white... death...
Well, there was a story I once read...
A person wanted to tell someone that he loves her. So he gave her three roses.. One in full bloom, one that was partially opened and the other a bud.
These roses had their own meanings.
A full bloom one meant that she loved him too... love in full bloom.
A partially opened one meant that she wasn't ready.. maybe she loved him, maybe not.
A bud meant that she did not love him... friendship was better.
I'll leave you to speculate which flower she chose.
