I am not sure of what you refer to. Some refer to being in the box is a man thinking in traditional ways that have bee taught to him by elders and have made the man in the box within a realm of traditional thinking influenced by society, religion, politics, sexual implications, beliefs drilled into our heads, drugs ruling our lives, etc. Everything we think are the way it should be in life. Often these traditional beliefs hold us back from progressing in life to better ourselves. Referring to stepping out of the box is to be in a virtual outside of the box where we can reflect on what comprises what we are which is inside the box. Step outside yourself and view what you see in an honest approach. See what is closed minded in your life and try a different approach to things. This is stepping outside the box. The man in the box is trapped with the ways of which he is accustomed to and wonders why there is no progress. Stepping out of the box is moving past what we are usually doing that may be holding us back. Often this is related to men being macho and men's obligation to be that way. To step outside the box and not let this tell us how to treat others because we are afraid it will lessen our machismo. Being tough, invulnerable, etc. are in the box whereas being kind, sympathetic, caring etc. is often thought of as outside the box. Step outside the box and look at yourself honestly. So much macho crap makes up less than a whole man. Caring sometimes seems sissified but is part of the balance that makes a whole man.
