If the tag says your comforter is washable, then by all means go ahead and launder it, using some bleach. The bleach will kill any bacteria on and inside where the feathers are. I launder mine all the time, but my tag also says, that I can. Because mine is King Size, I take it to a self Laundromat, and place it in a Tumbler Washing Machine, where it comes out nice-and-fluffy.

Okay, trust me with this. Don't sleep on it tonight. Don't wash it yet. Wait until tomorrow and call a JC Penney store and get transferred to the home department. They should know there, if the associates know what they're talking about... and if they're not convincing, call back again, get transferred to the catalog department and ask to talk to the home department manager. If there's not a Penney's near you, go on their website and just find the number of any Penney's store.

From experience, look at the tag on the product that says exactly how to wash it. See if it can tell you. Some down comforters cannot be washed at home, but only dry cleaned. When it comes to down comforters you want to follow the directions EXACTLY.

You might want to try a spray on stain remover first. Or, put a little liquid detergent on the area before washing. Me, I've bleached mine lots of times and after about 8 years it's fine. I just dilute the bleach in the water first.
