if you are a permanant worker employed then you should get paid. In my company, you need to pass the 6 month probation before you get sick pay. I weren't off sick before I was allowed sick pay. Agency staff don't get paid for sick leave. I personaly think that if you are a permansnt employee who is employed directly by the company you are being ripped off. holiday leave should be for holidays and fun, not for being ill. people cant help being ill, so why should you have to suffer if your ill?

If you just take 1 day off you should not expect any sick pay as you must be off 3 co nsecitve days or more, unless you have a generous employer. Also he can not deduct sick pay from holiday entitlement. Are you not in any union?

you are getting seriously ripped off!!! i dont know how the labour laws work where you stay, but here in South Africa, you are allowed a couple of days sick leave that you do get paid for. Speak to your boss and tell him it's not your fault you get sick, and it's not often. they must cut you some slack, you are the reason the company is functioning, the boss obviously needs you there, so if you get ill, hell ya they should damn well pay you for it!!!

You should have rights if you've been there 5 years, so check. Generally though, if you are off sick, there are 3 waiting days before you get SSP. It depends whether you get company sick pay or not. Lucky you for getting holiday pay in it's place- I wouldn't get either!

If you work in the UK you have a right to statutory sick pay. Most reputable employers also offer paid sick leave for their staff. Consult your Human Resources team for more information.

Your contract of employment should spell this out.
By law you may be entitled to a certain number of paid sick days each year - check the relevant legislation

That depends on your contract. However if you are off sick for any length of time ( I forget the time you ahve to be away but you can look it up) then the company must pay you sick pay which they recover from the goverment.

As already stated you need to read your contract as all this information should be in there alternatively ask your employer for a copy of the necessary information. If you don't have a contract then essentially you have little or no rights.
