The timing belt needs to be replaced on my Subaru Forester (2000 manual). Is this a complicated procedure for an experienced mechanic (although maybe not familiar with Subaru)? We have been told that the computer needs resetting after the timing belt has been replaced. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Never heard of the computer needing reset although it is a good idea to have the timing on the car checked as the new belt will change it slightly.

I truly have owned Subs for 2 a protracted time, even earlier timing belts, I truly have a mechanic that works on in basic terms Subs and he has performed a minimum of four timing belts for me. I truly have in no way had a failed water or oil pump. My mechanic has in no way reported changing the two whilst doing the Timing belt. isn't the oil pump interior the oil pan? no count if that's and that i continually concept it replaced into (could be incorrect). Then changing it would in all probability advise pulling the engine. you do no longer could pull the engine to do a timing belt. I run all my vehicles into the floor. the main miles I truly are growing to be replaced into 180K out of a 1987 Legacy wagon. i offered this automobile new. I had to alter the timing belt two times and the take carry of as quickly as. It replaced into carburated and the throttle shaft bearings wore out. i might have mandatory a sparkling carb so I junked it. With gasoline injection that's no longer a project now. do no longer replace the oil pump. in case you're up around 150K replace the water pump. in any different case do no longer complication approximately it. One Sub engine, the two.5 according to probability, is an interference engine and the valves & pistons will collide if the belt breaks. the different engines will basically conk out and be O.ok. once you replace the belt. WOW! I basically did slightly study and the Oil Pump does seem to be on the outdoors! nevertheless i does no longer substitute it. in spite of the undeniable fact that I basically remembered that the cam seals and likewise according to probability the crank seal are companies to leakage and are often replaced whilst the belt is complete. in case you p.c. an authority opinion email me and that i will supply you my mechanics #PN. He could do a timing belt or fairly plenty the different activity on a Subaru in his sleep. he's that solid and basic because of the fact the day is long. I do undergo in strategies the belt tensioner pully bearing is likewise yet another ingredient that is checked. Its a MA selection. yet he will advise you.

first off you dont say if it is turbo or not , the quad cam motor can be abit tricky but no problem for a mechanic...second the computer does not need resetting some vehicles do have a timing belt change interval warning light that needs to be reset, but not in your case. good luck.!!!

NO, my son had his changed recently. Only took less than 2 hours and the computer needed no resetting. Take your car to a reputable mechanic that knows what he is doing...
