I need the following items from my father's PC so I can print wirelessly from my laptop. Where and how do I get the info from the PC? Thanks.

1. user
2. workgroup
3. server
4. sharename

"user" is the name of a Windows user who has privileges to use the printer.
"workgroup" is the name of the Windows workgroup to which the computer sharing the printer belongs.
"server" is the name of the computer sharing the printer or its IP address.
"sharename" is the shared Windows printer's share name.

user = limited users don't have much privileges so u have to see who are all the administrators and can open any one account

u can find the user accounts in the control panel

workgroup = just right click on "My Computer" and go to the properties. in the properties window go to "Computer Name" tab there u can fine the workgroup

server = i can guide u to the ip address

to get the ip address go to "Command Prompt" and type ipconfig and press enter it will give u the ip address

sharename = right click the printer u want from the printers folder in control panel and switch to the sharing and security tab there u can find the printer's share name

i would suggest u to just open the pc to which the printer is connected from the pc u want the printout to be given. follow these steps its easy

just go to run and type

\\(the ip address of the pc to which the printer is connected)

and press enter. a new window will open with the shared files and folder in that computer just right click on the printer u want and click on connect. then wait till its installed and then ur pc is ready to print on that printer

best of luck

yep - Kool_Rock has the right idea to set you in the right direction, and if that is still a bit over your head then try the 'Network Wizard' procedure to see if you are on the network (i.e. is your dad's computer 'seeing' your computer & is yours 'seeing' his) if this is fine then it is just a matter of clicking the 'share this printer' box on the properties tab of the printer on your dad's computer. Obviously to do these steps you will need to be logged on in as Administration (i.e. you need admin. rights to change such things), this is important to remember.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!

Right click on the MY COMPUTER icon on his desktop. From there, go to the COMPUTER NAME tab.

For ip address, go to START MENU > CONTROL PANEL > NETWORK CONNECTIONS, and there select the main network item , and access its info by right clicking on it and selecting STATUS.

Right clicking that same icon and going to propertioes will aloow you to enable FILE AND PRINTER SHARING.
