How does a file " Open with" work? How does that work? help.?

The open with option lets u open a a file with any program.......lets take an example of a file with extension "avi" which is a movie file.......the default program specified for the paricular extension is windows media player....but if u want to open the file with some other media player then just....
1) right click the file icon
2) go to open with option
3) u'll be shown a box with almost all installed programs in yr comp
4) select yr desired program to run the file.

sometimes some programs are not detected by the windows....in that case u can specify the program from its actual location just using the browse button.
