Yes, in my day we called them fruit loops also. Whoever gave the previous person who mentioned that a thumbs-down is wrong to do so. That was a common term. I don't know what they're for - the person who thought they were for keeping a tie in place is probably right. But yes, fruit loop is a term that was used.

When we were kids we called them fruit loops that was 45 years ago. My shirts have them and I have no idea why or what they are for.

On collared shirts they were traditionally used to keep neck ties in place. I guess they are still there for that purpose.

When I was in middle school, they used to call it a 'fa g tag' because only preppy fags wore them. I'm not judging; I'm just telling you what I heard.

Oh holy buddha. I type in fa g with no space and it shows up as 3 stars in place of the letters. Grow up yahoo. So if I'm asking for a ciggy I can't call it a fa g or take a f ag break? Mother of buddha!!!

that's an excellent question. i dunno what it's called, but i always figured it was for hanging the shirt without ruining it. like how hanging it slightly below the collar stretches the fabric? i dunno. im probably wrong.
