So many people give this as an excuse to cut up babies. Vulvas have a lot more hiding places for funk and people don't chop them off routinely. With a whole penis It's just retract, rinse, replace right? Why do American parents think that is so difficult?

I am talking about men who have to live without their foreskins because their parents didn't think they were capeable of learning how to shower.

Please stop defending ritual or routine mutilation. i want to know why people think the penis is so much dirtier than a vulva, which also produces smegma and will smell after a while, but noone cuts it up.

The foreskin does serve a purpose. Google frenulum, ridged band and gliding mechanism and you will learn the depths of your ignorance about your genitals.

Phimosis can be cured by stretching excercises, a steroid cream or a dorsal slit (in severe cases.)

You are definitely correct in saying that washing a penis whether circumcised or not is an easy thing to do. In fact it can be fun too.
Problem stems from one or more of:
1. Parents are freaked out when it comes to things sexual and they associate a boy's penis with sex thus it is a dirty, nasty sinful thing. For this reason they do not want to even acknowledge their son has one lest they be encouraging him to actually use it. So they let the doctor cut away as much as they can to minimize their discomfort.
2. Parents in areas where circumcision is widely practiced haven't got a clue as to what foreskin really is, how a penis with foreskin works or even how to wash a penis that has foreskin. Thus they would never want their son to have something they do not understand and choose not to understand.
The weird thing of it is though that cancer of the penis is not restricted to intact men. Nor do intact men run a higher risk of gettign STD's or any other problems. Also, I have seen (and from a distance even smelled) some pretty disgustingly dirty penises and those were on guys who were circumcised.
So no reason cited by anyone really has any solid evidence that circumcision is 100% effective at doing what they claim. In fact over many years the removal of foreskin was thought by medical professionals to eliminate masturbation (shoot I know guys with no foreskin who masturbate way more than I do), cure epilepsy (yea right!), and all sorts of things. And one after the other every one of those has proven false. Even the invention of soap and warm water displaced the cleaning argument. And given I find the little act of retracting my foreskin to clean under it quite pleasurable, I am definitely glad I have to spend that extra few seconds washing my penis.

no, it's not. Guys who are "intact" who can retract their foreskins very easily, and who don't routinely clean the head of their penis, are a--h---- with whom it is not worth having a relationship, because it's a good indicator of whether or not they care about YOU. There is a condition called PHIMOSIS in which the foreskin is too tight to be routinely retracted. In such cases, circumcision is, IMHO (and only a qualified physician should make the final decision) required. In cases of phimosis, the area covered by the foreskin will retain "funk" and it will be very difficult to clean.

The uncleanliness issue is that, even with regular washing, an uncircumcised penis can begin to smell horrible even in between daily showers. Not to mention in extreme cases the "cheese" that can be produced.
There are also religious reasons for circumcision. You will not often find a Jew or Christian (non-Catholic) who is uncircumcised. However, most baby boys are circumcised simply because of tradition. In the US, it has just become common practice. Of course, if the parents desired, the process can be skipped, but the foreskin really serves no purpose, and can even cause problems later in life. The skin of the foreskin is also more suseptible to STDs.

*shrugs* It's a cultural thing, not neccesarily a health issue. American doctors will tell you that circumcision is not a hygiene issue anymore. Personally I think it's putting the baby at risk for a cosmetic alteration.

It's not so much the hygeine issue, but the increased risk of cancers associated with intact foreskin. Although most people are completely unaware of this risk & they just use the hygeine issue as an excuse. It's simply a matter of asthetics for most parents whether they admit it or not.
Personally, I'm thrilled that asthetics mattered to my parents & when I have a son he will also be circumsised.

Okay, now that I know what you're talking about, i'd like to know why this subject seems to bother you so much? If I have a son, he is going to be circumsized too...I just think it would make it a lot easier on him. If the parents are fine with it, and so are the doctors, then why is it bothering you so much? Is it hurting guys to get circumsized? No. It's not ignorance, it's preferance. So, let people do what they prefer to do.
