The movie "Ten Canoes" was the first ever to be filmed entirely in one of Australia's indigenous languages "Ganalbingu".

Australia has picked this groundbreaking Aboriginal-language film as its official entry for the 2007 best foreign-language film Oscar. It will vie for Academy Awards category.

Starring Jamie Gulpilil, Richard Birrinbirrin and Frances Djulibing, it tells a fictional story set in the distant past in which the lead character is attracted to one of the wives of his older brother.In order to teach his brother tribal law, the older sibling tells a mythical story of love, kidnapping, sorcery and revenge.

The canoes in this film were made according to original tribal methods, using directions from tribal elders who had not made them for some fifty years

This Australian adventure, comedy, drama, history and war movie directed by Rolf de Heer and Peter Djigirr received an award at 2006 Cannes Film Festival having Rolf de Heer given a Special Jury Prize.♥
